I just purchased an Tamrom 18-270 and there is a lock on the lens that stops the lens from creeping.

I use the lens lock when carrying. I hold the lens when taking pictures so there is no creep then When on my tripod, a piece of tape works.

It only works when the lens is at 18mm.

I use a lens band. Easy to use and works well.
I sent my 3 year old lens back to Tamron and they fixed the lens creep and calibrated it for free.
and not really......next time get a OEM lens..remember you get what you pay for.....

I called Tamron, said to send the lens in and they would correct the problem. Did a great job, no charge. Problem solved.
I use a lens band on this lens and it works fine. You can by them on Amazon, Ebay or get them free from charities and turn them inside out.

I gave my 18-270 to my son and bought the 16-300 which never creeps and takes better photos. The creeping was difficult to deal with and there is no way to stop it.
I'm in the habit of using the lock. When through taking a series of pictures, I retract the lens and lock it. Then I can walk around. Should something come along I want to take a picture of, it's quick and easy to unlock. I'm just in the habit of it.
Should I not want to lock it so it's ready to take another picture right away, I hold the lens as I do all of my heavier lenses. It has not been a problem for me.
I sent my lens to Tamron and they fixed it.
