Lesser known churches in Paris France #1--St. Severin
Very nice photos of a beautiful church. I believe this is the same church we accidentally found on our way back to our hotel. You are so correct, the churches off the beaten path can be the best to capture. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous cathedrals and stained glass windows that are very well photographed.
Beautiful series,, Thanks for sharing!!
Wonderful, simply wonderful.
Please remember, Texas has several missions that are deserving the treatment you gave this lovely church.

The problem, Peter, is that you felt the need to hijack another person's excellent post for your personal agenda, which you just so completely explained to us all.
Steve, I do not think so. It is all a matter of interpretation. We all should know that a series of photographs like this is generally preferred to be in the photo gallery section which is where it is now, and they normally get moved if initially posted in the main photography section regardless of the subject. David's work is excellent, and I interpreted it and appreciated it as architectural work. I was merely pointing out that Paris had other wonderful architectural opportunities such as the example of Eric Parker's work. Is there anything wrong with pointing out that there are excellent photographic opportunities from many cultures in cities such as Paris or Rome? Sometimes we are less aware of the wealth of opportunity that comes from other cultures. If the topic is photography and a location such as Paris, why not point out other possible subjects with a similar context? If had posted one of my images of Wells Cathedral in the UK or San Pietro in Rome instead would that have caused you to react the same way? They would fit the topic of architecture, and a place of worship, but not the relevance of Paris. On the other hand, the image I posted fitted the context of Paris and a place of worship, just not a Christian church. Is there a problem with that?
Lovely church, and thank you for your beautiful series on the stained glass windows. I can't imagine
windows like those being reproduced today. Well done!
Beautiful architecture, artwork and structure. Nicely captured in all your shots.
Superb images, David, of beautiful architecture and stained glass windows!
St. Severin is my favorite of the lesser-known churches in Paris. Your photos are excellent and quite comprehensive. The stained glass window are so well done. I know it is difficult to get such good shots. I think you may have misidentified the exterior view, the first picture in the series. My photos show a much more ornate building with gargoyles, flying buttresses, and such. This seems to be born out by an Inrernet image search I did. One of the high points, to me, in this church is the single twisted column in the chancel area. All the other columns have straight fluting and rise and branch to the ceiling supports. The center column has twisted fluting, which is apparently very rare in church architecure of the period. Thank you for posting such great photos.
cwaters, thank you for your input. I have rechecked my photos, which I did manage to apply geographic coordinates into the EXIF, and you are absolutely correct. The exterior view I posted is not of Saint-Severin, but of Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet Church, and was no doubt taken from the coach as we passed by. I misidentified it and posted the wrong photo into my Flickr® Album for Saint-Severin. I will fix this ASAP. The photo that should have been there was this one:
Ah, that looks right to me! It was a minor error, considering the quality coverage of the interior. I look forward to seeing your photos of other Paris churches.
