I lost my Internet connection for about three days, and I did a reset of the router as part of the guessing game to get it back. The network name changed from "Home" to "linksys," and the NAS no longer appears on the network. I use Synology to backup to externals and the NAS. Synology could not find the NAS. Of course, entering the URL into the address bar finds it, but I want to get there from my network. I had to tell other devices that linksys is now the network name, so I'd rather not go back to "Home Network 1." Any ideas?
I muddle through this stuff sometimes so what I say could be a goosechase, with that in mind I think you have to set up a new network location and point everything at it again. PC or MAC?

Once again, the language barrier raises its ugly head.
I use the NAS for my PC backups, but I believe I can access it from my iMac.
No I knew what you meant. But I can't tell you how to add a network connection If I don't know which you were using. As long as it is pc/Mac compatible yes it will be viewable and accessible from both
I should have asked what version windows, but from win 7- control panel -> Network and sharing -> view computers and devices -> you should see your NAS If not you will have to re-add it. Did you update to win 10 during the free upgrade? during this? is your NAS compatable with win 10? network devices can be so finicky switch cords do all the usual to see if it shows on your network. For Mac maybe system prefs-> networking and you may be able to add it manually with the network name or address.

This Dell has the Win10 upgrade. Everything worked fine till I lost my Internet connection on this machine alone.
and you can see it if you type in it's addy, so that eliminates cords or a surge frying it. Sorry I am not familiar enough with Win 10 to be of any help. have you tried unplugging the ethernet cord from the NAS rebooting and plug back in and see if it shows up in network places? sorry I'm resorting to the "is it plugged in" type stuff, not having set up a network on Win 10 I can't be of any help
The DNC is hacking your system
There are times when too little information works out better then too much. At least it keeps me happier.

One problem is that I can't find the "addy." I spent three days trying to get my Internet connection back on this machine, so I'm kinda sick of this. I'll take a look at it later. I've done so much unplugging and plugging and swapping cables and messing with settings that I'm totally confused. I got the system working again, but I don't know exactly why.

You haven't really given me enough information to help, but I would STRONGLY suggest a call to your internet supplier for some assistance. Also, and I know it's too late, but I wouldn't start changing network names -- I would work to get things back to where they belong. If you have a Synology NAS device, a call to their support might also be helpful. Either you lost your router or you've been hacked, and you need to find out - before it's too late. If you want, PM me and I'll see if I can help you. Best of luck.

Jerry, most NAS have a web based control panel that allows you to configure literally everything: NAS name, shares, partitioning, etc. Linksys does, in my experience, also have this and you could have initially changed the name. This should not affect the data.

Yes, I can connect to the NAS control panel, but that's where I get stalled.

Thanks. I am very close to getting back to normal - in terms of computers, too.
With the name change, my iPad can't connect the way it used to, but I think that will solve itself when I get the router switch and NAS straightened out.
Jerry the name changed to the default name that comes with every modem. not good to keep that name. Look up the router model # and download the user guide. It is easy to change the name and password of your router. I had to do this about 6 weeks ago after an extended power outage. Basically you enter the routers local IP address in your browser and then follow instructions.
