I belong to a camera club that has a terrific library which we try to keep stocked with useful books. We currently have a good selection of books, many by the usual suspects ... Peterson, Kelby, Sammon, McNally, etc., but the search continues. Our club encompasses all skill levels. Anyone have any must reads in their personal library? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

For flash photography, Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Flash Photography" is excellent.

Anything by Tim Fitzharris. I especially recommend his books on landscape. His images are wonderful! Also, Guy Edwardes' book "100 Ways to Take Better Nature and Wildlife Photographs." If you are looking for general or specific topics, I suggest looking at Amazon. Many (most) of their books have owners rating the books.

Even though I have been doing this for 50 years, I just purchased, and am reading, the newest versions of some of Peterson's books. It never fails that I learn something on a re-read. As I use these books for the moderate amount of teaching that I do, I like to keep current. Understanding exposure, Exposure solutions and Flash Photography are three any photo library should have. I also like Kelby's work but I would highly suggest that you folks purchase Laura Shoe's Lightroom DVDs. She offers two at about $ 50 each. Well worth the cost. Best of luck.

Sounds like you have a great selection of technical books. My frustration is my lousy composition so I got several books a while back, based on a recommendation here on UHH (Thank you UHH folk for great suggestions!). These are not technical books, but examples to learn from. "It's Not About the F-Stop" and "Light, Gesture & Color" both by Jay Maisel, "The Photographer's Eye" and "Looking at Photographs" both by John Szarkowski. I've learned from all of them (though you might not be able to tell it from my photos :-)
