Here are a couple of shots taken with my P900. Overall I would say I've been happy with it.

I hand hold it at 2k frequently. Also regularly brace it against something, but rarely use a tripod. Get fine results most of the time.

Then you must be a hell of a shot! You would be a very successful sniper!

How can anyone possibly imagine that they can successfully hand hold the equivalent of a 2000 mm lens? The range of the camera as a handheld device is useless. You would HAVE to use a tripod for three quarters of this camera's range. Anyone who wants a hand held 2000 mm is asking for a miracle, not a camera!

I have never tried using it on a tripod. The three photos I posted were all hand-held.

I bought mine when they first came out -- have used it once - way to complicated for me -- I'd rather use the D810....camera sits in it's box in the camera closet. Think it has 10 shutter snaps on it.....also was not amused that I had to down load and print a manual for it.....

I don't know where you bought yours, but mine came with a manual. I did order an aftermarket eBook user guide also.

But at the max zoom? You would have to use a very fast shutter. I am very good with a rifle controlling shake, but over 400mm the angle of view is so narrow that any camera movement no matter how slight is BLUR unless the shutter speed is VERY fast. Anyone who can hand hold and shoot a 2000mm lens is pretty close to robotic in body control!

I lack words to express how totally I agree with you. I'm fairly steady, but I couldn't find my subject, never mind photograph it, at 2000mm. I sold my P900 because I'm not a birder and don't care to be tethered to a tripod. You were generous in equating movement at 2000mm to blur; I found that movement at 2000mm would take me totally off of my subject.

If you are not fibbing, you need to try out for the Olympic rifle team, or join the Seals as a sniper!

It's true. And I'm old.

I shoot trap and skeet -- and am fairly good at it - but hate the camera at it's max -- too much shake. Too complicated to use, as I said before....it will remain a paper weight in the camera closet -- never to see the light of day again! I bought the camera from B&H.

Why don't you sell it? I'm sure there are a lot of people that would love to have it and get a lot of enjoyment from it.

I am not going to try to change anyone's feelings or thoughts on the P900. It is the most fun camera for me since 35mm days. The Nikon engineers nailed it with its VR (Vibration Reduction) system - it really works. And the well thought out Snap Back Zoom button allows one to acquire the target and quickly zoom back in. Perfect camera for everyone? Nope. But I really enjoy mine. All I wish it had is a Starbucks dispenser.

Considering that most of us have commented on trying to hold this thing steady at 2000mm I read somewhere that the next iteration of this camera will be 100x (the P900 now is 83X). I wonder how that will be to hold?
