I used an older AiS mount manual focus Nikkor 300mm F4.5 ED lens on an Olympus Pen E-P3 mirrorless camera ... ISO 320, F8, SS 1/160, handheld... The camera has a 2X crop factor...

Decent resolution. Just a tad noisy.

Hi Sceamin Scott--I love your photo! I am looking to buy a Olympus Pen E-p3 now used at a cheap price through KEH. I have some older Nikon lenses but also older Minolta MD manual lenses and lots of other misc lenses. Does this camera do well adapting to older lenses like the above mentioned and some m42 and m39 lenses? Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

I have adapters to use my older legacy lenses from Nikon, Minolta, Konica, Pentax, Leica, et al on both my EP-3 as well as my newer OM-D-M10. Since the registration distance is so shallow on mirrorless cameras, a simple mechanical adapter is all that is needed and there are many inexpensive ones on the market. The EP3 doesn't have focus peaking, but it isn't difficult to acquire focus with practice. You can magnify the image to assist in focusing though.

Hi-thanks for the quick reply! What is focus peaking? KEH also has a Panasonic DMC-G5 with the movable lcd and a eye level viewfinder in bargain cond. for about $30 more although Im not sure I want a bargain camera. I have a Panasonic FZ150 which I love that seems similiar to the DMC-g5. I am looking to not spend lots of money but do want to play with all my old lenses. Any suggestions?

Hi Screaming Scott--the Olympus looks like a great deal. I researched focus peaking so I understand what your talking about. They are also selling Olym FL-LM1 flashes for pennies which might be useful for macro work? I like picking yor brain since I enjoy your photos and all your gadget wizardly. Not sure I can afford it this month but maybe. Thanks

The E-P3 does not have a viewfinder. I got a VF-1 EVF which sits in the hot shoe. If you intend to get one of those, be aware that only one item will work using the shoe at a time. I did get an external flash ( an Olympus FL-20) but I don't use my Oly cameras for macro shooting. The flash you referenced isn't much more powerful than the on board unit. Be careful what external unit you get as they are not all compatible with that camera. Better to find an off-camera solution for macro illumination. I use my Nikons for my macro shooting as I'm extremely familiar with their operation & like the larger sensor.
