David, your shots are beautiful. Obviously, whatever method you employ works very well for you. I know 2 people who set up flash systems similar, but not as extensive, as yours. The birds came to feed as usual and when the flashes began the birds left. The birds were Ruby Throated hummers, and they were gone for the season in mid-August. This thread shows many different methods work for some folks, not necessarily everyone. I met a photographer in the 70's who had a philosophy that made sense to me: "If it works for you, use it! If it doesn't work for you, either make it work or move on to something else that will work." Lots of different ways to get the same results? Maybe so.

You are correct. No argument there.

I live in Bradenton , Fl. And we seem to see humming birds around in the cooler months. Haven't paid much attention to them lately. I do remember seeing them mostly in early evening buzzing around. Thought they were some kind of big bug flying around. Then my dad got a picture of one and we realized they were hummers. Probably not so much in October, but do be aware of Zika in south Florida. God only knows what is going to happen with it by October.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to reply. Bit of a hurry today but I will be going back over your comments and advice again tomorrow. Interesting to see differing views and info on if or where hummers can be seen. Already been online googling but wanted some 'on the ground' info from local people who would be up to date. Thanks for the update re the everglades, such a shame.

I live a stone’s throw from the park. Though the park has many species of birds, I have yet to see a hummingbird. There a few good spots in the park for bird photography. Nine mile pond, Mrazek Pond and West Lake are some of the best. The National Park Services has a web site dedicated to Everglades National Park https://www.nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/maps.htm which includes a map of the park.

Artangel, If you find yourself near Gainesville (North Central Florida) you may wish to check out the Butterfly Rain Forest at the University of Florida Museum of Natural History http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/index.php/exhibits/always-on-display/butterfly-rainforest/visitor-info/. In Homestead Florida, on your way to the Everglades National Park, I would recommend stop at Robinson Fruit Stand https://robertishere.com/ and enjoy one of their milkshakes. Be sure you fuel up in Homestead because you will not have any gas stations between Homestead and the National Park.

Thank you for this info, that is what I meant by on the ground intel. I would not have known about the gas stations or delicious milkshakes. Will check out your links, thanks.
