I sold my cameras when I moved up to the 1d series cameras. I regret selling them. I think that if its a good camera go ahead and hold on to it.

Hi Guys: I have a question for you. I have a Canon 80D, EFS 10-18, and a EFS 18-135, EF 50mm 1.4 and a L series 100-400. I was thinking about getting a full frame camera also, possibly a Canon EOS 5D Markiii. I already have a couple of lenses that would run with the camera and I would also look at a walk around EF 24-105. So guess my question is should I keep my current camera and add a full frame or sell 80D and just go with the 5Dmarkiii? Thanks Fred

I would keep the 80D. I find myself going back to the APS-c body when I use the 100-400mm lens. It's like having a 1.6x teleconvertor. I use the full frame for everything else. A full frame will appear wider, while an APS-c will appear tighter or zoomed in. When you put your 100-400mm on a full frame it will look wider than what you're use to seeing on the 80D.

The one advantage of keeping the 80D is your 100-400. Once you put this on the 7D is is only 100-400 and you lose the reach the crop sensor gets you.

Unless money is an issue, you may want to wait till the 5DIV. OTOH, the III's are very reasonable with the IV's coming soon. Depends on where you want to be in the technology curve.

Keep it. As many have said here, having a crop sensor and FF sensor will give you different reach with your 100-400. The EFS won't work with FF, but that's why you get to buy another piece of L glass to use on your new camera ;)

Go for it! See what the 80D has been selling for on ebay and decide if having a second body is more important that the money. Two is generally better than one.

Now that you have received answers all over the board, ask yourself: Am I really any better off?

NO...NO. Let me sell him my bridge in Brooklyn first. The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.

I have an 80D and I used to have a 7D MK II. I sold the 7D and purchased a Nikon P 900. I got the P 900 for the reach. I did not use the 7D as much as I used to in favor of the 80D. My goal now is to keep the weight down. I have found the 80D with any of the STM lenses perfect for what I want. I used the Nikon for the reach. I live very near the Chesapeake Bay and I shoot the ships going past. Good luck with your decision. At this point in my life, weight is important. Good luck.

Sadly the"S" in the CANON lens nomenclature means "small" or crop framed lens. so you can keep the "L" (full framed) lens and use it with the 5DmarkIII and sell the "S" lenses with the 80D or keep them with it or whatever.

I'm just sayin...

Uh...the OP asked if he should keep his 80D and get a 5D Mk III either as replacement or as an add to their kit. They mentioned nothing about a "60D". I'll assume that the "60D" in your response is just a typo. And be in agreement that the 80D is a very good all-around performer, that has some "tricks" that the 5D Mk III does not have. If the OP wants to add a FF model to their lineup, I would strongly consider a refurbished 6D from the Canon USA online store...you can get them for a little over $1,000USD and they come with Canon's 1-year warranty to boot. Or, check Ebay, KEH, or B&H (used department). Or, if the OP is set on a 5D Mk III, they should wait a couple of months and see if the price for them drops more after Canon makes the 5D Mk IV announcement in a couple of weeks. Although the price for a 5D Mk III may not drop with any significance until the Mk IV's start shipping and/or even until after reviews start coming out...

I agree with you. The big advantage of a full frame is the low light capability and large pixels are also a big factor. The5Ds/r does NOT have good low light capabilities so in my opinion its self defeating as a FF. Undoubtedly it's a great camera under GREAT light. For myself it's important to have low light capability if I'm forking out big money for a FF. This is why I skipped the 5ds/r all together.

I think the OP should keep his 80D if he can afford to. Both APS-C and FF have their own unique advantages.

1 is a camera your money maker?
2 do you need the advantages of full frame?
3 will you style of shooting benefit from the upgrade.

Dragon, there are plenty of times that I wished that I had asked Sharp Shooter for his advice. If you feel the need to grow in photography, have a desire to improve beyond the capacity of your current equipment, and you can afford to make the changes, then take his advice. He is giving you some GREAT long term advice with sound reasoning! Also, welcome to the Hog.
