I tried to install an updated version of G'MIC on my Windows 8.1 laptop. I get a box which says 'libgdk-win32-2.-0.dll not found'.
I did a search online and found lots of software to 'cure' the problem, but lots more sites telling me that these offered fixes are scams, which install malware. In addition, I was astonished to discover the Windows 8.1 does not allow me to roll back to an earlier date. Ugh!
Being in my 80th year, and not computer savvy beyond the basics, I desperately need the advice of the computer experts here. Thanks in advance for your expert advice.

I'm not computer savvy either, but, I think I saw a picture of it on a milk carton recently...

Those "cures" are definitely scams.
You can indeed do a system restore to an earlier date in Windows 8.1. Right click the window icon in the lower left corner of your screen. Click Control Panel. In Control Panel click on Recovery. In the nest window click on Open System Restore and then follow the prompts. Select a date that you know worked.

Thank you, jpintn! You are a lifesaver.

Win 8.1 does allow Restore/Roll Backs, assuming you have not turned this feature off.
Go to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7vQx1fDLvc and the video will walk you through finding and using Restore in Win 8.1
Did you
uninstall the old version of G'MIC
before installing the updated version?
If so, you may have also uninstalled the 'libgdk-win32-2.-0.dll' which is actually part of the GDK program (GIMP Drawing Kit) and is linked to by G'MIC.
GIMP forum recommends installing newer on top of older programs.
A reinstall or updating of the GDK should may put things back.

Thanks for your detailed advice, Phreedom. Luckily I did not delete G'MIC.
