I'll post this here in the gallery but, I suspect Admin will move it to the attic. If Hillary is elected, this will be the new Air Force 1.

Hell, if the Donald wins, he'll probably trash it, saying his jet is bigger and better.

Well it is!

If a politician is rich enough and wants to spend their own money instead of our taxes (or gvt loans) I am all for it.

The planes that fly as Air Force One could be reassigned to something else until another president comes along.

But if Trump is elected he will probably have to use the Air Force One planes just for the comm and electronic stuff. Retro fitting his plane would probably more than off set any savings from him using his own plane. And then when he left office the stuff would all have to be torn out.

The new Air Force 1 won't be in service until at least 2020. So he'll have to deal with it for his 1st term.

Nope but starting with a C-54 during WW II (was known as the Sacred Cow!!!!) there have been special planes for the president. Currently two of them and which ever one the president is on is Air Force One.

Now since the helicopters are supplied by the Marine Corps and get call sign Marine Corps One what happens if for some reason the president has to use an Air Force or Army helicopter? I can't see them being happy to answer to Marine Corps One.

I read that when Reagan was flown from the white house to his ranch after vacating the white house in a Marine Corps or Army helicopter they still called it Air Force 1 until he disembarked.

That's the rule. It came about when either Truman or Eisenhower was in office. A civilian flight had the same call sign as the military had assigned the president's plane and there was some confusion as to which plane the controller was talking to. Whatever plane the president is flying on is Air Force 1. The Marines supply the helicopters and they're referred to as Marine 1.
