Revisited the thistle plant to catch some more thistles blooming and I was treated to butterflies gathering nectar and bees gathering pollen. I took advantage of the opportunity.
I know the rule for portraits is to focus on the eye nearest to you. Butterflies and bees do not follow the rules. Did the best I could under the circumstances.
Best in download.
Slightly breezy and very shallow DoF. Nikon D5300, aperture priority between f2 - f8, and 85mm and 50mm primes.
Constructive C&C welcome.
Enjoy!
*I know the plural of proboscis is proboscises, but that does not rhyme with "butterfly", so I made it up.

Dr. Nikon, I will take your reference "with a 5300" as one admiration and confirmation that the 5300 is capable of such images. I could not be happier with the 5300. Prior DSLR had the AA/OLPF, which the 5300 does not. That, coupled with some excellent primes (50mm and 85mm) really make the difference.
Glad you enjoyed the images. Much different foliage that Oahu.

Nikonian, thanks for looking. Perhaps one day I will get a proper macro lens. Until the I shoot as close as I can with the 50mm or 85mm and crop, crop, and crop.
Excellent captures. Beautiful butterflies well done.
Excellent! I especially enjoyed magnifying the bees to see the pollen on their legs.
