I just got the above software as a gift, and was wondering if anybody here has used it? It seems to get good reviews so I thought before I opened it I would ask here if anyone has any experience with it.

I have used one version or another since about 2000. It is good software, some plug-ins made for PS are hard or impossible to use with it but others work fine, just have to find how to install them. But more and more of the plug-in makers have the instructions available. In particular Corel has some links for plug-ins on their PSP site, Topaz tells how to install their apps and AKVIS also.

I would have to do research for others right now since I have been concentrating on how to use CC2015 for the last year.

It is an excellent program. It can do basic as well as very complex editing. It has a bit of a learning curve, but they have a ton of good video tutorials.

I own PSP X8 which was an update from X6. It's great but I only use it for major changes and those aren't needed very often.

Many others favor Light Room and Photoshop. Some how I never really understood those two programs and lost a bunch of sales because of it.

When I tried Capture One (C1) and PSP, things changed for the better. PSP wasn't as confusing and C1 was a breath of fresh air and is highly professional!

I own Paintshop Pro since X6, I now have the X8. The only issue I had with PSP was the processing was excruciating slow, that's when I was using a laptop with 8g of ram. Now I have a desk top with 16g of ram and the process is now quick.

I have used this program for about the last seven years. Currently on Version 8 Ultimate. It will do just about anything you would need done to a photo. If you pair it with the RAW processing program Aftershot, it will do even more. The older version #2 is included with 8 Ultimate but they have out version 3 for which you will keep getting ads. While there is a learning curve, it is not as difficult a program to learn as Photo Shop.

I have used many versions through the years. My first was version 7 when it was JASC software. I have used PSP X8 Ultimate ever since it became available (almost a year now). Very capable and pretty smooth running. It is my main post-processing software and can do most anything anyone would need. I run Topaz, NIK, Redfield and several other plugins that are the same plugins for Adobe Photoshop. I would highly recommend Paintshop Pro X8 Ultimate.

No one has mentioned it but the "X" is the roman numeral so this is version 18.

Corel also has Photo Paint which is a module of the Corel Draw Suite. I used it as my first editing program since I had Corel Draw to produce things for the classroom. Then when they took over and offered PSP as a cheaper stand alone I switched since I didn't need the newer Corel Draw for what I did for the classroom. When I retired I stopped buying Corel Draw as I no longer really had a use for it. I think version 12 is still around the house in it's box somewhere.

I didn't notice if you mentioned what type of computer, but PSP is for Windows. On a Mac your have to use an emulator. Corel says the X8 version works well and smoothly on Mac with an emulator.

I've used a number of versions of this product and have found it more user-friendly than Photoshop. I'm happy with it - I don't have this latest version since I'm satisfied with the version I'm using for at least the time being.

Like many here, I have used PSP for several years and I have always been happy with it.
You could try the trial version witout opening any boxes, also look at trying the trials of Zoner and ACD, see which you think is best for you.

I have always used Photoshop but if it was not for that familiarity I would use Paintshop all the time. Outstanding program and good value for money.
