I am looking for a piece of software that will allow me to print wall size murals in 44" wide strips. These will be photos so I want to keep the dpi fairly high. I would love to use Lightroom but as well as the 65,525 pixel limit there is also the 512 Mpixel limit so I would need to crop each section into 2 or more sections vertically just to get them into LR. Of course I would also need to do this on a horizontal aspect as well for a wall mount. Is anyone aware of a program that will print an 8' x 14' (yes that's feet not inches) in vertical strips up to 44" wide? As usual, free is good but I may be trying to rope the wind on this one.
I have several gigapan photos that I would love to print for those wondering why. Here is one example, use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out. (removed the htt*** so this doesn't hit the links forum) gigapan.com/gigapans/143536

In the UK there are quite a lot of sign manufacturers using print on plastic or even billboards. They obviously have to print large photo's. ask them .Staples has AO printing available so again seek advice from them. I have tried matching 'Poster' printed images using 9 A3 pieces and haven't liked the results It may be that you supply the largest image size on disk and let someone else work and print to the dimensions you require. I have seen 'lifestyle' programmes where this has been done but no wiser as to who 'dunnit' .

But I believe the image has low resolution. I believe the entire billboard won't be more than 16MP or so.
Personally, due the the issues with large scale media, I would go to a professional lab.
Doesn't your 44" printer have appropriate software to perform this task?
Try this: Size your image to the size you desire. 'Slice' the image into 3 32" by 14' strips - to butt the edges together, or add a bit for overlap - and print each strip. Apply the strips to your wall, or substrate, as if you are applying wallpaper. You may want to laminate the image, or lacquer or varnish it, for protection.
I agree, a good sign maker should be able to do this for you - a REALLY good shop could print it in just 1 piece, too. We do projects like this all the time, at the sign shop where I work.
Good luck!

I just have to ask: How is fishing this year of there at Rice Lake and Buckhorn Lake ? It's been a while since I was last up your way, but always had a great time. Very nice people too !
Try photo zoom. I have the 5 version but I believe it has been upgraded since. You can make very large prints with it. If you're not in a hurry, they periodically put it on sale for half off.

For something like this, I would use a professional service.
I have Photo Zoom Classic. My understanding is that it will do the job. I don't know if that is true as I have not had to use it since I got it. Maybe someone on UHH knows.
often, other than a professional lab, you might try a blue print company in your city. they often have the processors to print exceedingly large swaths of images.
Quite honestly, if this were something I was going to do, I'd let a print shop do it. If I were going to be doing this on a regular basis, I'd spend the money and purchase the necessary software and hardware to do it. But, that would have to be able to make me enough to justify the expense.

Whoever has a printer that will print that big has software that will run it. Unless I was starting a business to do this frequently, I'd just use the other guy..............

Nice shot.
I would do two things before going to print though. One would be to try and eliminate as many of the people as possible. I don't think they add to the nice composition. The other thing to consider is the size you are enlarging to. There are many places in the image that are much softer than others where the digital stitching was made. These will be more obvious as you make the image larger.
As for software, On1 resize does a great job of sizing for printing. Good luck
