Didn't read all the posts so excuse me if I am repeating other posts. I have the problem when I installed a hard drive from an XP computer as secondary just to copy the files over Windows 10 either doesn't let me access it or not showing the files. It said I don't have the right to access those files.
You mean it doesn't trust you? Wonder why that may be? You may need to reset some permissions, but that's just life!

If you can move the drive back to the XP machine, highlight the files/folders you wish to copy, then right click, choose permissions and change the permissions appropriately, then (after shutting down the machine), move the drive back to your new machine. Alternately, you could copy the files over the network from the XP machine to the new platform.
I haven't switched to Windows 10 yet. I have been on the fence about doing so, 1) I really like Win 7, and don't like giving up something that has worked perfectly for me and had no problems with whatsoever, and 2) I have heard about software compatibility issues with Win 10. Has anyone had any software issues using Win 10 with Photo software? I am not talking about Adobe PS CS6 or LR 6, as I am sure both Microsoft and Adobe have done everything to make sure those programs work. I am talking about other software such as NIK, Photomatix, DxO, ON1, Fast Raw Viewer, software for i1 Display Pro from X-Rite, etc. I use all these other programs in my workflow, and have no plans to stop using them. If anyone knows of any issues, or uses any of these programs with no problems, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you, Vince

I can confirm that the NIK suite works for me under PSE14 and PS on Win 10.
Jimmy, all my programs ran and are running without even a burp, didn't have to download any patches or drivers or updates, it just works.

color me cautious but I'm concerned my video editors, photo viewers, etc. won't work with W10. I'm still on W7 and there isn't a single person out there who has mentioned, that I've read at least, that they had no problems converting and keeping their current programs running.
I tried windows 10, But before I did I backed up windows 7 I did not care for windows 10 @ all it deleted programs that were old that I like to use deleted adobe photo shop 5 and its not picture friendly at all so keep windows 7 as long as you can.

Jimmy you aren't cautious, you're scared sh*tless of your own shadow. I have nothing that I use that doesn't run. I may have had to jump through a hoop or two on stuff that is over ten years old, but mostly not. I have 20 year old software and ten year old devices running. No problem.
Stop playing Chicken Little if you haven't at least tried and experienced problems. Frankly, I'm a little amazed that you get out of bed in the morning. Sorry to be blunt!

DXO, Photomatix, ON1, PS, and LR all worked perfectly for me. I had to reinstall NIK - took about 3 minutes.
Like you I was running Windows 7 and upgraded to 10. No problems to speak of except something called "Quick Access". I do my PP in Lightroom 5 and when I export an image to my desktop this damn "Quick Access" grabs the image and a lot of my PP work is lost. The image also shows much darker in Quick Access. I have found a way to partially turn it off but you have to do it each time you export a photo. Would love just to send Quick Access to the recycle bin.

Quick Access is a function of the File Explorer application, and does not function as a file viewer. Do you have the Preview pane activated in Win 7's file explorer?
What happens if you export out of LR5 to another folder other than Desktop?
My only problem (and it was a big one) with my Win10 upgrade was that my scanner no longer worked with Win10; I downloaded the updates from Epson (a number of times), but it still didn't work. I took care of the problem by pulling an older computer out of mothballs, I installed the Epson software on it, and it works like a charm.
Other than that one problem (and it was a big one), I've had no problems with Win10 and recommend you upgrade now.

Not picture friendly? What exactly do you mean? I've seen zero evidence of that?

Agreed!
Every program had a license for needed to be released installed, properly. Only one program wouldn't load and that was my favorite game called Rayman. It was from the 1990 and Windows 10 just plain didn't like it, evenot though I had the license for it. (I now have a version on my cell phone but it's not the same. Sniff-sniff.)

A game written and compiled in 1990? Please, you are not serious.
