Has anyone made foam covers for the tripod legs (for shoulder comfort)?
I was thinking of using foam insulation from Home Depot and some black electrical tape.
Has anyone done this? Any pictures? If so, what size insulation foam, 1/4", 3/8"?

I use pipe insulation from Home Depot and black duct tape. I have used this for several years and have not had a problem.

use water pipe insulation measure the tripod diameter and get that size insulation. You can get it in black.

I have a couple of pieces around to use just in case.

of course, I usually forget them when I really need them. :-)

I got some insulation from Home Depot that had glue already. Just take the plastic and push it together. Works like a charm.

Like a couple of others have said before; If you must use tape, spend the money and get genuine "gaffer's tape". Although it looks similar to Duct (Duck) tape, there is a world of difference. It is tape of the highest quality and will wear forever, plus it leaves no residue or adhesive "weep"...You can get it from Amazon if you cannot find it locally.

I typically put the insulation on 2 of the 3 legs, as well as use pipe insulation that is not too thick. That way the legs will fold in tightly rather than having too much insulation bumping against each other. With two legs covered, it still provides good padding over the shoulder and provides good hand holds in really cold weather.

Hi,
I'm a videographer. Typical tape will get messy. Get
gaffer tape. It will not cause the messy problems. It's not an item you will easily find, so you might have to go on line
to find it. I get mine at a store that specializes in Pro video
equipment. Good Luck.

My tripod already has it on there and it really makes a difference when its cold.
There is a black pipe insulation that should work fine on the legs but I would research the tape and make sure it is the right stuff. Typical black tape will probably not be the best and will start to peal and get messy.

Yes, initially I used black electrical tape and it got messy after a time. Now I don't use any tape at all and it works fine.

If you size it correctly there is no need for tape.

I would think you could use the Apropriate inside diameter pipe insulation or even Pool noodles ( same stuff as Kaizen Foam !) And you could attach them with zip ties /cable ties ! Though depending on outside diameter it might restrict your tripod from closing fully !!
