How about the people driving down the street with the car in 'Park'? Almost every movie/show in the last 40 years has done this.

And pulling out to drive without looking out the window or in the sideview mirror.

Here's a few others that TV people haven't changed over the years.

When someone takes a picture with a 35mm camera (whether it's digital or film camera), you always hear that
same cornball, motor-drive sound effect. Most of the time, the cameras in the shot don't even have a motor drive!

Another one I find humorous is the "looking through binoculars" gag where the screen is black with two holes
punched through the center. When you use an optic like binoculars, it doesn't look like that at all!

Why do all night scenes in an urban environment have to have wet streets? Yes, I know they pick up the reflections
of the lights, but it seems cliche to use that when it has nothing to with the storyline.

I've seen comedies where someone looks through a telescope and gets that binocular view.

And how about night scenes or storms shot in the daytime in clear weather?

Another one you see is when actors are "driving", they're allegedly going straight ahead, but they're moving
the steering wheel left to right and right to left. I guess if they didn't move the wheel, you'd assume they're
not actually driving.

Yet another is when you see people using a computer on TV. They never use a "mouse". They obviously know ALL
the menus and they just type in all the commands they need......yeah, right!

Jerry, The empty cup thing yes, cell phones not so much for me, I will have to be more observant. I often wonder who makes the cell phone screen when they show them, nothing like what I see on my phone or my friends phones. My real pet peeve is when they show people driving with the gear shift in park! If I can see the gear shifter while they are driving, they must not be driving. I know they are not, but someone on the set should either remove the gear shifter, or at least pull it down to any gear but park. I to am better now. Gary

Everyone on TV shows has a cell phone these days, but notice what happens when they use them. The phone rings, they look at it as it lights up, and then they hold it to their ear. In the real world, the light turns off, but on TV the light stays on. That's because they're not really involved in a phone call. You'd think someone would have noticed that and found a remedy.

Another minor annoyance with TV shows - When someone has a paper cup of coffee, of course it's an empty cup. The problem is that they handle it like an empty cup. It just doesn't look right. They should put a blob of clay or something inside the cup so the actors handle it like a regular cup of coffee.

Whew! I'm glad I got that off my chest!

So now I HAVE to start watching for these things! What always gets me is seeing modern things in shows and movies set in past times! Like an electric wall switch in the old west!

Touching on old westerns...How about the Duke and Dean Martin in Arizona with jet contrails in the sky?

Or....while on a dirt road, the cars have squealing rubber, or, while accelerating, you hear the roar of an engine with a manual transmission with shifts, while they have an automatic!

How about when there is a storm, and the lightning flashes, you instantly hear the thunder.... Always.

If they wait too long, the audience will forget there was lightning.

My pet peeve: a hurt person has to be moved from the emergency entrance through countless number of corridors to get to the operating room. It seems no one ever dies, on TV or the movies, at least. A newly opened health care facility in our neighborhood has it right: the "emergency" operating room is right next to the duh, "Emergency" entrance.

Have a great Fourth of July!

Or the civil war era film with a guy wearing a gun belt with cartridge loops on it. And vapor trails.

There's one that always has be saying, "Huh?"
The character looking at a computer monitor, and we see a mirror image of the screen on the character's face.
How does that work, exactly??

My gripes about movies and TV, regarding cell phones and computers are, someone picks up a cell phone dials (way to fast) and it's instantly answered. Doesn't work like that in real life. And with computers, a computer is turned on and instantly it's booted up and internet access is faster than instant, it seems. And don't even address phony helicopter sound clips. A turbine powered helicopter comes in, sounding like it's got an older reciprocating engine, and the sound clip has the engine spooling down before the bird has quite landed. Same with taking off, as it lifts off, the engine is still spooling up! I don't get that. Then there's the thing with an engine failure with a turbine powered aircraft. When a jet turbine engine fails, it just goes silent--it doesn't sputter, rev up, sputter some more, while the aircraft spins wildly out of control. Guess that's jus the pilot in me coming out. Or maybe I should just sit back and enjoy the show. Sheesh.
