I feel a song coming on!
I headed out to Redrock Canyon for the rising moon to get some interesting foreground, what a great evening!
Helped a friend out with his scope, got to enjoy a few celestial views
Met 3 "kids" from NY that had just graduated from university and were taking a month long trip around the country!
Perfect weather, slightly warm with a gentle breeze. Ahh, desert nights

Beautiful Gordon!
Glad to that you got out to some dark skies.
I slept last night. High clouds here. Why bother only to get driven back in by clouds?
(And they are still up there... )
I love moon shots when part of the landscape. Nicely done! Sounds like you had a lot of fun.

Sleep is good!
Looks like we are in for several days of clouds and smoke.
We have lots of smoke from the Erskine fire.
Might try and shoot some lightning this afternoon

Then have I got a trick for you!
It's called Lightening Camera App.
I can't remember if you have an IPhone, or
Android, but here is the Iphone app website:
http://www.i-lightningcam.com/ And the android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pluto.aftershot&hl=enBasically what it does is turn your phone camera into a high speed camera that catches 20 frames when it triggers. But it somehow catches before and after.
It may be available as a dongle for your DSLR camera as well.
???Here's a twist: You know how sometimes the shot you want as a few milliseconds before the one you actually got? Lightening Camera can give you the frame you missed.
It captures a couple of seconds before you actually trigger it. I just tried mine again and it grabbed 56 images.
Try it out and see what you think. If nothing else, it is a fun novelty. Sometimes I use it on the grand-kids.
Might find a shot you really wanted.
Really nice! I like the vivid colors of the hills in the foreground. Good shot!
Love the lines and composition, well done.

Thank you, Craig.
I'm hoping to get a moon rise shot on Saturday or Sunday from Joshua Tree too
