This is a young squirrel that as you can see has a problem. Not sure what it is but think he just tore the hair off his tail and it does seem to be growing back. Any idea as to what he has going on?

No he has lost part of his tail, I had one just like this and he lived for several years. It's to bad because they use them to cover up & keep warm.

Thank you. I figured he had hurt it somehow. I will keep him well fed and this coming winter will tell the tale.

CAS, thank you for the compliment. It just seems to be the right thing to do.

Greg, he most probably lost it in male fights for dominance. Who will get to mate with the female. It is a common sight. I like the photo, it shows off the lack of tail well.

Corolyn, I would not doubt that at all. Males, us men, will fight for a good looking female at a drop of a hat.

Agree with Corolyn. I've seen squirrel fights in our yard, and they can be pretty vicious.

Donna, I kind of sad for the little guy. Losing his tail over a female. He may be more human than we think.

Greg, I thought you guys had a tendency to lose the head, not the tail, over a female.
