Actually, Croce, the answer to your post could probably go on for quite a bit. However, the death of Christ on the Cross and the Resurrection offered two things that have drawn believers much more than the fear of Hell. Those are, victory over death as the result of His Resurrection and the path to Redemption, Reconciliation, and the myriad of things that come with Salvation due to His Death upon the Cross.

As far as broad practice goes, I agree, you are correct, but read Dueteronomy 13, and 17. It commands the killing of non believers. Perhaps you would like to remove those pages from your holy tome.
