Good luck!! At 67...and in poor health....the only Subway I want is a COLD CUT COMBO!

I consider myself lucky, at age 54, I hike or backpack every weekend, and chuckle to myself at the younger guys who can't do half of what this old fart does!

I did enough hiking in HELL! (Army) 1968-1970. I was treated like a dog for 24 months....hiking now brings back too many bad memories! You would think 45 years time would have washed away the bad stuff...but the sleepless nights still remain! Hike in Hell....then talk to me1

I spent 8 years in the USMC grunts, and it took me awhile to get back to where I enjoy hiking/backpacking.

Even back in the states HELL did not end. They would some days wake us up at 2:00 am just to hike in full gear for 8-10 miles just for the "fun" of it! Again....hike in HELL....then get back to meMarkus!

I did not have a draft #! That came after 1968. A draft # would have given me an "out." I had no out.....he did.

CHECK THE WEATHER REPORTS !!
It may be the Rangers do this for you before issuing permits - - dunno
No such in '80 when I walked up the Gorge a ways
A thunderstorm 100 miles up the canyon will cause water levels to rise 20 feet in 10 minutes.
Wouldn't wanna be there !!

Zion is a Fabulous park, THEN go to Bryce, Then to Lake Powell, and round out the circle at the south rim of the Grand Canyon

Please this is my thread that I wish to discuss photography and hiking. If we cannot keep this on topic, I will have the admins close this topic. I have tried to be nice and accommodating, but in reality, I have absolutely no interest in your military service. I am appreciative that you have served, but do not wish to hear about it in this thread.

Army ammo boxes are good for water, but a bit awkward for carrying. They're good for canoe trips, though. Sorry....doesn't really meet your needs.

Currently in Zion. Right now you can make about 4.3 miles before you have to swim to continue.
Bottom is uneven. Large boulders that are not always visible.

Don't take anything that can get wet. Secure and watertight is essential.
