I like Sears! This week, after checking EBay, Amazon, etc., I ordered a 10" table saw on Wednesday with a promised delivery a week later. Well it got here in two days. free delivery and the best price around. Now what the hell is an 83 year-old going to do with a new table saw?

Use it of course! There is life in you yet.

And we can almost certainly thank Walmart for helping to eliminate healthy competition for business that would ultimately benefit us consumers.

Actually, the people that shop at Sears are NOT shopping at Walmart. Sears/Kmart admitted that their biggest problem is people leaving them and shopping at Costco, Best Buy, and Amazon.

I must confess I do a lot of shopping on Amazon.com as it is a 70 mile round trip to the nearest
small shopping area that doesn't always have the best selection of items.

As a kid I remember sprawling on the living room rug going through the Sears & Roebuck "Wish Book"
before Christmas. It is sad to see a once reliable old business like Sears going down hill. We generally
bought all of our tools there as they had the best warrantee around.

Sears was down the tubes long before K-Mart.... why do you think K-Mart was able to acquire?

I'm not old enough to remember using the Sears Catalog for toilet paper, as a whole generation of people did, but I also remember Sears to be a mainstay store.

Today it appears to me that Amazon is replacing stores with online sales in all kinds of shopping categories and they deliver quickly.

I did when I visited my Granny who lived out in the country. I hated the slick pages!

I agree....I used to buy all my TVs from Sears....always got the best deals. Last time (several years ago) I saw their newspaper ad and (tried to) call the local Sears store TV dept. A nice lady answered and told me she was a Sears helper and that I should direct all my questions to her. In short I couldn't speak with anyone in the local store, only someone hundreds of miles away who knew nothing about the local store or its inventory. So, I bought a TV from BHphotovideo in NYC, instead. No tax and free delivery. I am surprised Sears is still in business....

Sears and Kmart are long gone from here in my neck of the woods. I'd buy my car batteries from Sears, and tools too. My father swore by the quality of Craftsman tools. It's sad.

The Kmart building was torn down and a new Cabela's built. The Sears was at the mall. Since I don't ever go to the mall, I don't know who has moved into that store space.

One thing I really like about Walmart is that finding someone to help me when I need it is easy.

Send it to me. I'm still using the one my dad bought around 1960. Actually, my son uses it now. 3rd generation, goes to show what will last when taken care of.

I find that there is a serious lack of store personal in most stores today. It seams only the small mom and pop stores have enough help any more. I really don't mind paying a little more for a lot more service. But in the end, the internet may kill them as well.

Craftsman rocks big time. Have 2 25 year old lawn mowers that won't die, 30 year old battery charger and air compressor that still provide good service. Kenmore washer and dryer over 20 years old. The Performa I bought there in 97 still works. Hand tools my father used. Come to think of it have a Wards TV that still works. Think Sears and think quality long lasting maybe to much so.

I'm very fond of most CRAFTSMAN tools. Fortunately the brand will continue, albeit in someone else's store. My local ACE Hardware store carries CRAFTSMAN tools and so does OSH.

I went to the local Sears and asked for a replacement switch for my radial arm saw--in the tool section. The reply I got was, "What's a radial arm saw?" After I explained, the salesman said, "You might try Chicago." Needless to say, I'm done with Sears.

You pretty much have to order replacement parts online unless you can locate an actual SEARS service center.

I for one will miss the Sears products but not their little community stores they started opening. My first credit card was a Sears Roebuck.from 57 years ago. Used to love going to their overstock store looking for tools.

My first credit card was from SEARS too, that's because I was once an employee there.

i bought a refridgerator from sears several years ago.....after 6mo it stopped working and, as it was still under warranty, i called for repair.....i was told it would be 2 weeks before a repairman could respond.....this was in a very hot july......i stated this was not good....i could understand a wait for a tv or stereo, but not a refridgerator in july.....sorry they said, it's the best we can do...i asked for, and was connected to the manager and was told the same thing........a neighbor loaned me a large cooler and we kept filling it with store ice to keep our food and some medicine cold....we moved from that dwelling after this incident (not because of it) and the house we moved to had a fairly old refridgerator.....we went to a local appliance store and purchase a new one... i asked the owner how much time i would have to wait if something went wrong....he said if possible they would respond the same day or for sure the next....no more appliances from sears..........i have a feeling the sears repair staff was probably down to one or two persons...sad................

Years ago, Sears was a top dog company. A couple of years ago Sears dropped down to #71 on the Fortune 500 list. Today they are 111th on the list. I think the smart employees started looking for work elsewhere some time ago.
