Drdrake ..., use all three ..., your best shots will be night shots ..... As this is the main attraction to the Vegas scene ...., Get up high like the roof top deck of the Rio .. 52 story deck ..., be there to catch the Sunset... And then city lights ..

And, if you have the time, rent a car and drive out to the Valley of Fire. Forget Lake Mead, it's almost empty.

If you have the time and you haven't seen the Grand Canyon, take the drive. Its a day trip, but well worth it.

When I saw your topic, I thought you were going to ask for things to photograph. I almost went there a couiple of eyars ago, and I asked here about what to shoot. Below are the suggestions.

Free in Las In Vegas

The circus at Circus Circus - photography allowed, no charge(?).

Hawaiian Marketplace

Golden Nugget Casino

Mirage Hotel
Volcano 7:00 or 8:00, on the hour

Sam’s Town
Sunset Stampede Laser Light Show is an experience you won’t soon forget! Shows at 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm and 10 pm daily.

Gold and Silver Pawn Shop
http://gspawn.com/directions/
Rte 592 W to LV Expwy
Exit 41B, W. Charleston Blvd (Rte 159)
Left on South L V Blvd
It’s on the right, just before Garces Ave.

Take a trip up the Eiffel Tower and you can see and photograph the whole Strip.

As for shows to see I thoroughly enjoyed and laughed until it hurt the Blue Man Group. Also any Cirque du Soleil how will bewilder you. http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/destinations/las-vegas/home.aspx I believe "O" and "Zumanity" sell out most often.

I second "old Vegas", i.e., the north end.

Also consider the top of the Stratosphere. Amazing views in 360 degrees should present some great photo ops day or night.

While at Red Rock Canyon be sure to try out the buffet at the restaurant. It is fantastic. Also when taking pictures of the canyon try not to wear eye glasses that have a polarizer in them it will throw off the real color scheme. Such as transition lens.

Henderson is on the river and has river taxis. Good photo ops. They have lots of classic cars too.
After Henderson, you can continue on to Oatman, AZ. The photo ops here are endless and your wife will be entertained too. Oatman is an old Western town with wooden sidewalks. At some point in the day wild donkeys wander in looking for carrots. Many of the shops in Oatman sell carrots. It is easy to spend an entire day here with a camera. The trip to Oatman is worth some scenic shots too.

I love all the photo ops in Vegas but when I go I find at least one day for a road trip to one of three places.
Death Valley 2- 1/2 hour drive
Zion National Park 2- 1/2 hour drive (FANTASTIC)
Mt. Charleston area 45 minutes north

Locally there is a short drive to Red Rocks and there is a 13 mile loop with lots of stops and incredible photo ops, Hoover Dam and the new bridge. Ignore the naysayers about going here because of low water, there is plenty to see and tours of the dam. Mt Charleston is also a great quick local destination. Freemont Street experience, The Neon Museum. Mandalay Bay aquarium.
Here are some snapshots my wife took at Red Rocks a couple of weeks ago.

There are lots of great shots you can get in Vegas and be sure to visit the Venician (sp?), and Cesars. But, do NOT (as I did) allow your wife to hang out of a car she is driving down the strip in traffic while she takes photos. It is an experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. :)

I second Valley of Fire. It is close to LV and one very beautiful and easy place to see.

In addition, be sure to make the drive over and visit Hoover Dam. It was very interesting and lots of photo ops on and around the dam.

When I visited Las Vegas this past October I only took with me an Olympus EP-5 with a Zuiko 12-40 f2.8 Pro. With your camera it would be the equivalent of a 18-60mm lens. I never during the trip felt the need of using something else.
I do not know about the quality of your Tamron but it has a great span of focal lengths although I seriously question you will be needing focal lengths with your camera beyond 200mm. I think that the Nikon 18-200 zoom would have fit you better for this trip and if you prefer Tamron their 17-50 f2.8 or the cheaper 18-200 are excellent choices and they are light.
The 35mm with its expanded view (50mm) in a crop camera and its aperture of f1.8 could be very useful for interior shots.

Everyone has given you excellent advice from what lens to bring to places to photograph, especially jerryc41. Would also suggest going to the Foundation Room, top of Mandalay Bay hotel - they have balcony with awesome view up the Strip. Have a drink and enjoy the view. I live in Las Vegas and if you want to photograph landscapes then definitely go to Red Rock Canyon, about a 30 min. drive from the Strip - take Charleston Blvd. all the way out to entrance and then do the 13 mile loop drive one way. There is a $7.00 entrance fee.www.redrockcanyonlv.org/visitor-infor...
Also, if you have a free day do take the 45 min. drive North on I-15 to Valley of Fire State Park. There is an entrance fee and park open from sunrise to sunset. http://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire-state-park/
One thing you didn't ask was should I bring a tripod. Yes, if you want to get sharp landscape photos and golden hour and long exposure night photos on the Strip. Suggest a light weight travel tripod. One word of caution - most hotels won't let you use a tripod inside their establishments as they think you're a professional photographer and the tripod is a trip hazard to other guests. Also, the Linq Promenade - world's largest observation wheel with various shops and restaurants, will not let you use a tripod. Again, thinking you are a professional photographer and you need special permission from various hotels to use tripod. If you need further info, please contact me through Private Message.

Night shots are always fun in Vegas. I have used my 50mm f/1.8 there and had pretty good results. The nice thing is I was able to do them hand held at about 400 ISO. You may still get some motion blur but not nearly as much with a larger lens. Good luck and have fun!

I always suggest, particularly if you are an engineering or technical person, go to Hoover/Boulder Dam. Take the tour down into it as well.
On the way back, stop at the Memorial Bridge Plaza. Walk out onto the new bridge for great photo ops of the dam and canyon.
Excellent late afternoon lighting approaching sunset.
