Nice view into that world. The pictures, with the comments, were very good. It was interesting.

Wow! What a live! I'm glad I'm an amateur photographer. Would hate to make my living that way. Thanks a lot for sharing. You must lead an interesting life.

Kind of removes that thin veneer of glamour from the craft . . .

I was assigned to and accredited for Obama's visit to Hiroshima. I was shooting video, but I chronicled the stills guys and gals for your amusement and edification. This is the life of a photojournalist, or at least one day in the life. Enjoy...

Thanks for sharing this. It puts the whole photography as glamorous idea to rest. I would be willing to bet that they only get paid if one of their shots is used. Otherwise all they get for their efforts is the credentials to get in.

Kymarto, what a great documentary of "a day in the life". Thank you for taking the time to educate me on how it is all done. It sure doesn't look like an easy way to make a living. And, what a great HDR shot! Thank you for sharing both with us.

Thanks for creating this post that so aptly demonstrates a day in the life of a for real photojournalist. I had to be out on an artificial turf football field covering a graduation lately in 100 degree weather for 4 hours and was barely able to function afterward. I can't even begin to imagine how you all coped with the ladders, the extremely big lenses AND the means to transmit your images immediately for much longer than that. Kudos to you and the rest and WOW!! what a gorgeous image at the end there!

Thanks for sharing what life is like on the other side of the lens for people who rely on this for their livelyhood. A really interesting set of shots.

What makes me laugh and totally amazes me, was way back when, the same photojournalists had to run back to their press rooms to get their film developed as quickly as possible to out scoop the competition. We are living in a whole new world.

A couple of the older Sony bodies -- the Alpha 700 & 900 do not have EVF so battery life is normal. But I would think that the availability or lack of suitable lenses is also a serious issue for a pro.

Thanks for showing everybody the insight into the photojournalistic world. I never had to use ladders like that but have had to face deadlines that tight. I've had to wait 3 days in the Arizona heat outside of court room waiting for a murder verdict to come in. As your picture show, the life of a photojournalist is not the least bit glamorous. I have been pushed, shoved, yelled at, and looked at with great contempt while covering news stories. Thanks again for showing some of the problems and working conditions of a photojournalist.

great backstory. i remember hauling step ladders and of course the ever present husky quicksets. that brought back some memories. i also remember, only too clearly, the joy of hauling my hasselblad equipment up a 20 foot ladder to get the photograph!
of course, i was about 20 then. these days, hard to haul oneself up the stairs to get into the house!
great work, glad you are still able to do it!
