The Texas A&M University in College Station has a memorial to the victems that were killed at the bonfire collapse some years ago. I shot and merged two images from an earthen berm overlooking the portals around the circle. Each portal is set on the circle at the compass heading to the student'™s home town and contains a plaque memorializing their accomplishments and memory. In the center of the circle where the center pole for the bonfire structure had been erected is this compass rose monument.

I assume the momentos left behind are also set on a heading to the visitors home town.

I have often been intrigued by natural patterns in nature right below my feet as well as man made things found in interesting or unusual places as I look down on them from above. Often as not I a™m looking for a new texture or pattern that may be useful on some project. But enough about what strikes my fancy. I woul™d like to see what you all capture from the superior positon as you compose your images looking down, be it standing on the ground, on a mountain side, or from the top of a building like I ha™ve seen Simon do a time or two.
I'™ll kick this off with these few images.

These are pics from a week ago. Went for a walk in the woods and also along the beach. I think the first flower is a very small orchid (?) The second is either an orchid or a miniature Iris (?) (lots of guessing on my part! LOL! The last one...I was trying to see how close I could get to an object with my w/a lens (11-18). I probably could have gotten a bit closer, but I was already standing on my head! ;-) Sorry, these are a bit blurred as I was hand holding.

Sharon, the pink wildflower, the first picture that you have posted is of a "Fringed Polygala". This wildflower is extremely rare in New Brunswick, but I don't know of its status in Ontario. It is very beautiful and a wonderful find! Its nice to see it posted.

Call these ''Looking Down and Back at History''. These are remmants of an old pier built in the late 1800's/early 1900's back when wood to build ships was being sent to England. Some of you might haveseen the old house, the Atkinson House ca.1850 which is about 30 miles South of here on the Chaudière River and it was from this place that the wood was driven down to eventually wind up on docks like tiis one. It also could have served in shiop repair also
