I knew about their fighting only because of the remarkably-dull 2001 movie Pearl Harbor. There is a rousing action sequence, a Michael Bay movie after all, ostensibly including their combat. It isn't particularly accurate; however, it does help one realize that our Army Air Corp, given their standing orders, did their damned best.

I had never heard this story on Pearl Harbor . Well worth watching
een many movies and docudramas depicting the Pearl Harbor attack December 7, 1941..."A Day That Will Live In Infamy".!!! Most of the films, particularly the ones supposedly based on fact, showed short quips of a couple of P-40 pilots getting airborne and shooting down enemy planes. But I, for one, never had seen the true story and more detailed info on who these two pilots were and their actions and associated events while airborne.
The YouTube site below contains a superb video of that story. Hope you'll pass it on to say that history matters. A short video about two American P-40 pilots who were able get off the ground at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Thank you for sharing Frenchy. Great timing too. With Memorial Day coming at the end of May, this, and stories like them, give us all pause to give thanks to all those in the Military who fought the good fight for our freedoms.
As already stated. this was depicted in the not too good 2001 movie with Ben Affleck. The Pearl Harbor disaster is getting little attention now since the 9-11-01 incident. I remember televised specials honoring the soldiers sailors and Marines every year. The 50th Anniversary had President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara in attendance at Pearl Harbor to commemorate those who lost their lives there. Not likely to see that happen again.
