During my first career, a quarter century in the Navy, I learned to drink copious amounts without suffering ill effects. In fact, it was a necessity for staying awake on mid-watches. I will never admit to the possibility that with advancing age (and a weakened bladder) I'm less able to tolerate it. :-P

So, the memory card I put through the washer and then dryer should still work? Do I dare?

So mine that the Siamese Cat dropped into his water bowl for the week that I was in the hospital should still work? Now that I have allowed it to completely air dry for two weeks?
It has about 1,000 great images on it! I feel better after reading this...very much better! Thanks!!! Had thought that I was on VERY shaky ground, but now think that I'll have no problems! What a naughty cat! Why in the world would he ever have taken THAT Particular Thing Off of my desk in the other room and carried it into his water bowl? He MUST KNOW that that is what "Daddy" spends all of his "Quality time with, instead of with him! Very smart cat...

Would be my luck to grab the hair dryer and blow the card directly into a full toilet bowl!:):)

Cameras have been recovered after floating in the ocean for months, and pictures were retrieved from them.

It should be comforting to know that an SD card can survive a complete cycle in the washing machine without loss of data! I have personally tested this feature.

You dumped an entire, fresh cup of coffee down the drain!?!? Egad!

Rather than waste a full cup of coffee, I would have used a spoon to retrieve the SD Card.

Thank goodness my card reader is built into my computer and I keep my coffee away from the computer. :)

For those of you who want to know whether an SD card loaded with images can withstand being dropped into a full cup of coffee, the answer is yes. Here is the 10-step image-recovery process:
1. Place full coffee cup beneath card reader
2. While trying to insert SD card (with 500 images) into the card reader, inadvertently drop it into fresh, near boiling coffee.
3. Plunge fingers into the coffee cup while exclaiming @#!%$!
4. Since coffee is too hot to retrieve the card, dash into adjacent bathroom and dump coffee into the sink - pluck the card before it drops out.
5. Rinse the card in cold water and pat dry with towel.
6. Grab the Electric SD Card dryer (hair dryer) from cabinet and direct the hot air directly on the card for 30 seconds. Hold the card with fingers otherwise it'll blow off the counter into the sink. Try not to burn fingers again.
7. Return to PC and re-insert card into the reader and utter prayer.
8. If images are seen successfully uploading, thank the gods.
9. While images are uploading, return to kitchen to refill coffee cup.
10. Return to office and place coffee cup several feet from card reader.
For those of you who want to know whether an SD ca... (show quote)

I'm amazed at how resilient these cards really are. I have had a couple of them go through the complete wash, rinse and dry cycles in my clothes washing machine and dryer and still are usable and was able to retrieve my shots! Haven't tried the coffee route yet. ;-) Cheers.

Great bit of creative writing -informative too.

Reminds me of a similar bit of writing that I did for a course in college. Was supposed to a humorous account of a life experience. I wrote a 10 step account of a broken leg that I suffered during the first grade by returning to Mother Earth after falling from a playground slide.

I am so glad that your SD card survived, sorry for the loss of the coffee.

If my SD cards are not coffee proof, I return them to the store for replacement. better than dumping a cup of coffee down the drain!

This sounds like an interesting processing process. Do the photos come out sepia tomed? Seriously about the only way water, coffeee or even Coke can hurt an SD card is by corroding the contacts. You can buy a spray can of electronic contact cleaner at The Source/Radio Shack.
