Hello everyone! I'm new here, and I've only been into photography for about 6 moths, anyways I've been looking into buying a DLSR camera to replace the Nikon Coolpix L340 that I currently have, and I was just wondering what the best low cost options were :)

Look at the Pentax line. The cameras are top notch and you can get a used K-3 24MP with kit lens for approx $800-900. The full frame K-1 goes for $1900-2500. Pentax cameras can use any of their existing lenses. You get more bang-for-your-buck.

It always helps if you give a price range.

Look for a refurb. These are like new but a fraction of the price of new. Choice is what fits your hands best followed by cost.
There is no bad camera, just different users and their opinions.

Welcome and Good luck.

Heck out the DSLRs from Pentax. Their non full frame models are as good and in some cases ahead of their Nikon or Canon equivalents, plus the Pentax lenses are second to none. Professional tech reviews give these cameras very high marks; some have received the highest in their class. Also, there's an active and dedicated Pentax user community on UHH, posting some stunning images. Lastly, my hunch is that Pentax has a much lower need for repair and malfunction history than the big name products.

if you're not hung up on the newest and best, there are a bunch of fine used older cameras on the market.

They are also great for travel. For most models, you can get an adapter for $25.00 that enables you to use generic AA batteries, available almost anywhere

Welcome to the Hog, royals.
Keep in mind you are investing in a camera system. Canon offers the most lens.
Take a close look at Pentax. They have a LOT going for them.

Re: used cameras. Canon 7D cameras are available for about $800. Even though the 7d2 is the newest version the 7D is still a great camera, and the full line of canon lenses is available

To answer this requires having your definition of "low cost": $200? $800?, $1200?, $1800 or higher.

I would look at Canon and Nikon. They seem to have the most add-ons in both their own lines and from other suppliers.
