What is the best i-pad to use on a photo shoot that will let me use Lightroom 6? I have the surface pro 3 and the samsung but both of them will not let me download Lightroom or Creative Cloud.
Thanks in Advance

I think you will need Lightroom MOBILE, not Lightroom 6 it is available for IOS thru the Apple App Store, as well as for Android (Samsung). I am not sure about the surface pro....

Don, I don't think that LR Mobile will permit tethering. For that, I think you need the full ap. However, some SD WiFi memory cards do facilitate tethering on some camera models with the appropriate ap loaded on the phone or tablet.

I suppose it depends on the definition of tethering ;) I presume tethering is complete control of the camera remotely, including live view, others define it as sending the picture from camera to device when it is taken.

You are probably correct on Lightroom Mobile & tethering, but it is possible to set it up using Lightroom on a computer to actually tether, then sync the photo with Lightroom Mobile & a CC subscription.

For the OP:

I also do not believe that there exists a way to "tether" to an IPAD directly yet, unless you opt for a wireless router connection, such as Cam Ranger for an additional $300.00 or a DIY Cam Ranger Clone for under $100.00

Or one of these possibly for about $150.00

Absolutely right you are!

Here is a link with video links that explains the confusion...

Lightroom Mobile DOES tether - well, as long as you really tether to a computer running Lightroom and sync Lightroom Mobile thru your CC cloud subscription and sort of half close your eyes ;)

Sort of an ignore the man behind the curtain I guess ;D :D

With Camranger, you can use almost any tablet or smartphone.

I'm using an iPad Air and sometimes an old iPod, and using the qDslrDashboard app for tethering a D7200 via WiFi or USB. No problems so far (and much better than Nikon's WMU app).

I have LR CC loaded on my Surface Pro and it works great. This should be a viable option.

When you say tethering, do you mean complete control including live view, or do you mean when you take a shot it is automatically sent to the iPad?

I took a look at the app qDslrDashboard. It has only a few reviews, and they were all negative! The app costs just about $10.00.

There is an app called Slingshot for android devices you might want to try. I use a Vaio Z Canvas laptop that runs Lightroom and Photoshop that I can tether to my camera with no problems so I don't understand why you can't load Lightroom onto your Surface.

RE qDslrDashboard ... complete control including LiveView. Works a treat.

I went through that problem
I settled on a small hp laptop for a few hundred bucks
Battery lasts 7 hours and you can run many tethering programs on it
I use a long USB cable to my d750
The wireless approaches were not reliable for a long shoot near any other wifi network
Cam ranger is the only other option I know of

The other program that I'm aware of is Control my Nikon or Control my Canon. Nikon site is here:

http://www.controlmynikon.com/

This will give me a lot more control than even Lightroom and I am seriously looking at purchasing it in the near future. At $29.00 it's a good bet and the review's I've read have been pretty positive. That $29.00 includes 3 license's.
