and only if greatly magnified. Too small to see with the naked eye. I saw the egg casing and what looked like dirt specks, but I have seen them before, so i knew what they were. Just hatched

they have ants to protect them so probably some will.
i think insects have a lot of little ones but only a few make it to be adults.

Yes, same principle with fishes. I am glad we don't use the same system. I knew ants protect aphids but didn't realise they benefit from hoppers as well. You are a mine of info. thanks.
