Good point. Any copyright or signature can be removed by any one who knows what he is doing. So you just have to assume that anything you post is fair game.

Yes, but it you also I'm bed your copyright info into the data captured by your camera, that copyright is much harder to remove.

Check your user manual for instructions on how to do this, but it should be on one of your built in menus on the camera.

A stripped copyright is a flagrant violation of the copyright laws.

There have been numerous discussions on copyright and copyright laws here on UHH, most recently within the last few months. Go to the search menu, and just enter Copyright in the search bar.

You might want to keep records of when you post your shots, and to which sites they were posted.

I use Smugmug.it costs a bit but is easy to use. I can limit who gets to see my various libraries or which ones are open to all.

I recently tried using Amazon Prime's free service but it is slow and cumbersome.

If you have an Adobe Creative account you can create a free online portfolio/gallery. Head on over to http://www.myportfolio.com/

This is mine http://mikehardisty.myportfolio.com/ didn't take me that long to put together. Like you I'm just an amateur and really I only use it to link to and from my blog

Thanks for the tip Mike. Didn't know that gallery was available to Lr subscribers. Loved your photos.

I post my photos on Flickr and Youpic. I am not a professional but if you want to see my body of work that is where I am. I have been used a lot on websites as my photos are in the creative common license attribution. I have been paid twice for photos to be used in text books for college. If I do decide to use them for profit, I have at least a body of work that I can boast of. It all depends on how you want to use your photos professionally.

Hello fellow Hedgehogs,

Im wondering how important it is to have a gallery of my photographs online. I do not professionally take photos but it is a hobby I like a lot, and would not be opposed to trying to sell some of my photographs, and maybe later in life I would like to do something with them.

So Im wondering how important it would be to make a webpage displaying my photos? Currently the link at the bottom of the page brings you to my ViewBug account, there is no way to organize my pictures there, it just has a lot of my good ones. Is it worth the time to organize? People who have done this, is is worth the effort? I would like to show off my photos, but I dont know the best way.

Leppi, There are a lot of services which allow you to share your photographs. I'm sure that you, like many others, don't take them just for yourself.

So, sharing your world, through your eyes and interpretation, is a worthwhile experience. There are some that are free, some that charge minimally, and some more expensive. You'll have to research and see what works best for you.

If you have the skills needed, you can even host your own web site. There are a number of places that are very reasonable for doing that, as well.

(1) how important it would be to make a webpage displaying my photos?

Only you can answer this question.

(2) Is it worth the time to organize?

Yes. And here is the bad news. It's a continuous job.

(3) I would like to show off my photos, but I dont know the best way.

The best way is what works for you. Only you can make that decision. But if you want to know the options, there are many. SmugMug, Zenfolio, Fliker, Google, 500px, Instagram, and many others. The only way to know for sure is to look into them, look at what is posted there, look at the TOS, and look at the features and see what you like about each. Choose one, bite the bullet and put up a site and try it for a while.

If you go to my UHH profile you will see my sharing site is advertising free SmugMug. IMHO it's well worth the cost to avoid the advertising. That's me. You may feel differently. Nothing wrong with that.

FYI there is a good article at the web site below comparing the features of Zenfolio to SmugMug.

My alarm went off at 5:00 this morning, and I viewed your topic as I was trying to get up and out the door for an early morning photo shoot.

I had not yet viewed your work, so it was a comment in general.

But, if you are thinking that at some point in the future, that you might like to offer your work for sale, think about the potential marketability of each shot tnat you take, and edit out any that do meet a high standard that only you can set.

After just now viewing your work, I see that you have an eclectic collection of subject matter. Unfortunately, I'm not using my HD device to view them, so I wasn't able to fully appreciate the quality of your work.

I'm going to repeat my advice to take all of your shots down, and add either a copyright or watermark to all of them.

There are too many dishonest folks out there who would not hesitate to take one of your photographs, and claim it as their own.

Hey Thanks for the review, and for the advice! I know that website keeps the copywrite when I post. I will make sure to be more aware of this fact in the future though! Thank you!

Not if you have an Adobe Creative Cloud account. i.e The photographers one that includes Lightroom and Photoshop

As Adobe put it...

"When your creative work is your life’s work, nothing is more important than having a beautiful portfolio website. With Portfolio – which comes free with any Adobe Creative Cloud plan – you can quickly and simply build a website to showcase your creative work, so you can get back to doing what you do best."

Shoot, I dont have an account. I use my dads old photoshop elements 11 user. I tried that one but it didnt work. Thanks for the advice though! BTW love the landscape photos on your site, great subject matter and use of exposure!

Thank you all for the comments and advice, I will use that when figuring out the kind of website to create

I have been convinced to create a website, one that I can hopefully share my story along with my pictures. (strongly copy written of course)

Hey all! Just an update! I discovered this site called VSCO and it is good for posting photos and/or blog posts. So far it has been very cool. My profile is extremely bland right now so don't judge, but I would recommend checking it out!
