I do aerials with a drone, landscapes, weddings, and the local team sports pictures of the high school. I don't make a lot of money but I shoot about 2000 pictures a week witch makes my skills that much better. My money is made doing appliance repair. All you can do is shoot shoot shoot and post on a for sale website like Photoreflect. I have enclosed an aerial with my drone.
Cool shot, but I would crop out the blown sky.

Might be best to ask, how many have paid off all their equipment? Let alone any profit.

And how much were the photographers working for you making?
About 350.00to400.00 we had such a good reputation we did not have to advertise it was all word of mouth some weeks we had to turn down weddings because we were all booket.
I have thought about the same thing. I would think a weddings shooter could make good money if he or she had a great personally and good skills
Your question, isokc, was about making money via photography. I, like most folk here, have a day job and don't rely on photo income. However, what I do earn from my photography skills is access to some pretty interesting life experiences. I volunteer at "the" food and beverage museum in New Orleans- a 501(c)3 non-profit- and from that association have some of the best food in the world, meet wonderful people, drink way too much, am invited on remarkable adventures and to fancy events - certainly more than I'd pay to attend. Plus, hob-nob with food celebrities, politicians, activists, and a few weirdoes. There's no 1099... in fact, I'm a charitable donation! So, making money: No, but benefitting in many ways, including financially: Yes- not a lot, but nonetheless, yes.

I hear how hard it is to make money in photography and it's very competitive. I'm wondering what percentage of UHH members (take an educated guess if you want)make money through photography. Just for clarification, it can be small amounts, large amounts, money made through selling prints or perhaps in some other way.
Just curious. Thanks for your guesses!

I never thought about making money until I read this forum and had some comments from visitors to my home.
Purely a hobbyist, who like many of you, have taken some incredible photos, several that are framed and, with wife's permission, displayed in our home.
We have had guests over for dinner and today I had some furniture that was reconditioned delivered by the 'artist'. She raved about my photography and wanted to know where she could purchase some prints. I was like, really?
Duh?
So question, what website(s) do any of you suggest where I can upload my better photos and allow them to be purchased?
I use Flickr, but mainly as a back up and for sharing family event photos.

FineArtAmerica.com is a really great place (if not the best) to sell your work. I have made a good deal of extra $$ there over the last four years when I first joined.

If I had a nickel for every rejection slip, I'd probably be ahead of the game!
For 25 years I made my living from photography. Now I make my living from video work. Next I want to try abstract painting. Push yourself....

A wild guess but I would say 20% - 25%.

I've sold $450 worth of 11x14 photos (matted and framed); total profit was $400. Ebay matts and low cost frames make it possible.

I don't look for work, but friends refer me & word gets out.
Have done a couple of weddings, out door group shots,
Birthdays, Anniversaries, etc.
They can be a challenge, but I enjoy it.
