The prickly pear does come in at least one color other than green as your photo illustrates. It's also known as the desert weed because it'll grow almost anywhere.

I've got a photo, if you care to see it, that looks like the plant is growing out of solid rock - a very hardy cactus.

Nice shot of this guy.

Thanks for looking, these that I have posted are in the yards of the neighborhood. Not able to get out in the desert at this time. Love to see your pic.

I lived in Tucson, AZ for fifteen years off and on. Over the years I have come to love the desert for its diversity of cactus, animals and terrain. Over the years, I have experienced a few run ins with the cactus and they came out as painful and itchy experiences. But, that aside, the desert if you look hard enough has a lot to offer in the way of experiences and photo opportunities.

Hi Dixiegirl, it's one of several different species of the Prickly Pear catcus. I'm learning as I go.
