You are speaking for yourself, of course. I have been a Windows user for almost 30 years. Looked at Macs a few times over the years and have zero interest in them.

I also was a Windows user, actually I started with Dos, for over 30 years. My buddy was also a Windows user and switched several years ago to Mac and kept telling me I should switch also. I finally got tired of the weekly upgrades and continued slowing down of the Windows platform and switched 2 years ago to an IMac, I have been so impressed with my IMac and its speed and wish I had made the move 10 years ago. There was a small learning curve but well worth it. Best move ever for me.

I guess that was the main reason that I asked the question here on a photography forum. Does anyone else agree that a Windows platform is best for post processing?

Some swear by it...personally I'd just swear at it if I had to use a PC again.

Jim,
As Don just posted a few minutes ago, you can use MSWord and MSExcel on a MAC. I use the MSOffice 365 suite of programs on both my MAC and Widows computers. However, the MSOffice 365 suite is a monthly subscription which some people do not like the monthly payment, personally I find it convenient knowing that regardless which operating system I am using, they are compatible with each other and are updated frequently with the latest security patches etc. Furthermore, there are 5 licences that means my 3 Windows and 2 MACs are covered at a cost of US$10.00 per month. I do all or almost all of my post processing on my 27" iMAC but do some while travelling on my 15" Retina display MacBook Pro i7 laptop. I would do more post processing on the laptop, but my wife keeps stealing it from me, she hates her 17" Sony Windows laptop! IMO, you would be well served with a MacBook Pro with 15" screen but, in fairness, you would also be well served with a properly configured Windows laptop and not have to concern yourself with the learning curve involved jumping from Windows to the Mac. Not that it is a big jump if you are reasonably computer literate. If you live in a large metropolitan area, I suggest you visit an Apple retail store and try out the machines on display. Then consider sitting in on any of the one hour free training sessions at the store. You will then get to see if the Apple technology is for you, or if you would be better staying with a Windows based machine/software.
Just my opinion for what it is worth, or not.
Good luck with whatever decision you make. Garth

That is the most germane question asked today. Why in hell would anyone in their right mind ever switch from a MAC to the "Dark Side" and Microsoft Windows?

The Answer: There is no sane reason why anyone would trade the world's best OS for a mediocre clone prone to numerous "blitches" and endless new OS version corrections.

Why bother? Easily as good? I don't think so. MS Office is the world wide business standard and regardless of how good the clones have become, MS Office is still far more powerful, and feature rich. As a long time power user I feel safe in saying nothing else even comes close, and I've seen them all.

For the average person though who has less of a need for collaboration, or the more advanced formatting and design features of Word or Excel or have less need for such features as forms, macros, or Excel database functionally, or other more professional features to enhance document functionality, a simpler, free option may be a better choice.
