Repost these, but check the box (store original) then we can download the larger file. What camera do you use, may be able to give advice for next time. Lots of people here will help you

In the photo of the puppy I used the burn tool to darken and bring out more highlights in the puppy and the white sofa cloth. As a grab shot it is a really nice one. but if you had a shady spot that would have been nice to. I used Photo Shop Elements 10.

Not sure why you think you didn't do well. The child is gorgeous and with extraordinary green eyes and fair skin. Direct sunlight is heavily reflected off her and not off the dark puppy. I played around with it in photoshop and found that I didn't like my version better than yours or the others that were posted. Fair people almost always turn white or wash out on a green background. Dark rich colored backgrounds are better. Maybe a little bit of reflected light to her lower face and up into her eyes to light up the green in them. But the shot is beautiful!! You got the shot! The different light requirements of the shot were so diverse. I just went to a photog class. One of the pros kept saying "wait until sunrise or sunset" no direct sunlight. I too am learning. Quite the little buddies to have as models.

Beautiful expressions on both subjects. Overall just a bit overexposed.

Here is my version. Subtle changes to exposure and colors using levels, curves, saturation, and shadow/highlight adjustments to entire and/or selective sections of the image.

Again, excellent pose of pup, but the light from above back right is overpowering. Can't correct the highlight and shadow on body. Perhaps lessen it's power and add main or fill flash from front left.
Here's my edit.

You could always do a head shot.
