I'm Dale,
I need to learn how to photograph my gemstones. I'm looking to purchase a Nikon D 3300 body and then a Tamron 90mm Macro. And of course once they are in hand I will need to learn how to use the combo. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated. I currently have a Sony D390 and an older used Tamron 90mm Macro and am having SOME success.
I'm really looking forward to this.
Welcome and be sure to look into the macro section here.

Welcome to Hog Dale. You will also need a stand and some lighting to go with your camera and lense, along with a laptop, tethering software, and stacking softwares. Please join us over at the Macro section, and closeup section.
[quote=dpcarriere]Welcome to the HOG, Dale. When I take small items to sell on E-Bay I shoot outside with the most light. I put the ISO to 400 or 800 and the f stop at the smallest opening such as f 11 for f16. I use felt cloth behind it. Post one of your shots, click on "store original" and ask for advise. The camera data will be available for us to check. David
Welcome. The D3300 and the macro Tamron 90mm is a good combination. When you buy the D3300 be sure to check the current firmware released earlier this year.
Aloha Dale and welcome to UHH.
Welcome to UHH Dale, glad you joined us. I also shoot Nikon, presently the D7100. I see that you have already received some macro suggestions. A strong pint of this forum is that there are many knowledgeable and helpful members.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.
