You got many replies and advice... some good and some utterly worthless. I am admittedly a Canonista and I have never owned or wanted to own a Nikon but I realize it is also a god camera.
I DO own the 7D and I bought it primarily for it's BIF fast focus... it is excellent. I use it in my stock photography and I shoot portraits with it. iStock and Getty like the shots... so let that be a recommendation for you Go to a photo store, bring your own card and take a few shots with several cameras. Go home and compare and whatever makes you happy go for it. Forget the ravings of a person that claim s that Nikon, or whatever their "weapon of choice" is.... it's your money and you'll be living with whatever you choose. Good luck and keep on clicking

Okay, so maybe I over rated it as a "god" camera but it IS a GOOD camera
Are we shooting for Guinness World record for the most times a simple question is andwered in a single thread?
Well, is it FF or crop? Still not sure.... :)
I actually have had the Canon for several days and so far love it. Thanks for your response.

If you use the quote function people will know who you are replying to. :)
No it is a cropped sensor--1X6 meaning if you put a 100mm lens on camera it will be a 160mm lens, all you have to do is multiply by 1.6 to get the focal length on your lens with his camera

The camera is a APS-C format (half frame). It is considered the best APS-C format Canon camera. I have one. It is an excellent camera.

Ccook2004, I don't know your interest in the 7D Mark II is but if it is to take pics of that baby in your arms, you might consider the 6D instead, in my opinion it is a better portrait camera and landscape camera, and probably better for someone to to DSLR's to learn with, the 7D is pretty advanced.... I own both.
