D7100/Sigma 120-400 mm @ 400 mm.

This was hand held, so getting Mr Bee this sharp was a bit of a fluke (I won't tell you about all the ones that weren't sharp, lol). Please download for a better look.

Don't make no difference how you held it...you got great results!

Great shot Earl...hand held is about the only way to capture bees as they never sit still long enough to do a set up...when I did my bee project last year, I took a few thousand shots to get a few hundred good ones that I wanted to keep...they weren't all bad but just too similar or not what I wanted to keep.
Tell me about the gear you used...?

It's at the top of my post, Ron--D7100/Sigma 120-400 mm @ 400 mm. I shot from about 6 feet away & cropped to suit. :D

Excellent detail. Since I usually shoot handheld sharpness is often a fluke for me. Especially at 400 mm. 8-)

Holy Cow - that is one sharp image for six feet away! Nice job. Must say that for close up work, there are plusses to be had with a telephoto lens vs. a macro lens.
