Yup!! All trains - freight, passenger (Central and Penn) traveling in NJ to NYC had them. Most of them were red. As a kid, growing up in Bradley Beach, NJ, I lived a few blocks from the RR station. We would place pennies on the RR tracks as a train approached. Of course the train would flatten and enlarge the coin. We'd keep them in our pockets for good luck. Some kids drilled a hole in them and put them on a chain for wearing around the neck.

BTW: The town is "Wood - Ridge". There is also another called "Woodbridge". Thans for posting the memorable photo.

I have loved watching trains since I was a kid a long time ago and just can't get used to seeing one go by without a caboose at the end.

Nice. I know Woodbridge, NJ. I at one time work for a company headquartered there (I was located in CA).

Yes, these days I see engines at both ends of the train.

Since they don't need brakemen anymore, there is no need for the caboose. It still weird to see trains without them. It is like a sentence without a period

There is a motel in Strasburg Pa that is a whole bunch of cabooses. I drove through there last weekend and it looks like there is 20 or 30 of them. Pretty cool. I live about 1 hour from there, but I think I will book a weekend there just for the fun of it.
