Either that or a highly affluent snap shooter.

I took these three years ago and have forgotten what he told me the photo shoot was for. I apologise in advance. But I'm thinking on it. He couldn't talk much cause he had to concentrate on what all those cameras were doing.

It is a CIA operation to photograph UFO's. Or to photograph and document illegals sneaking into OUR country.

The "big rig" is likely for a panorama. But he is making it way to complicated. It works fine with a regular tripod. Hell, I've accidentally found I've had the images to make a hand held panorama. Software is amazing!

I'm just curious about how he carried all that gear to that spot. Did you see any sherpas standing around? How would you like to set all that stuff up and then see black thunder clouds rolling in?!

Right! That was my first though. Did he carry it all himself - all at once? Or did he bring a bit, go back to the car, bring a bit more? Maybe a chopper dropped him and his gear right on that spot. :D

That looks like a slider for time lapse.

I have seen some beautiful time lapse videos from a setup like his with the camera moving along a track. It adds another dimension of movement to the clouds and stars moving by rapidly. I wish I had the time and patience to create videos like that.

Hey alan,

So I take it he didn't react well when you asked him to move his stuff so you could get a good picture;)

My wife always says I'll never have to worry about Alzheimer's. None will be able to tell the difference.

Lol. He isn't really taking pictures. He sets up all the equipment that he collected at garage sales so that everybody takes his picture while visiting the Grand Canyon. Lol

If memory serves me, you can drive to pretty close to the edge but you can't park. There are shuttles that will drop people off, but with this much equipment he probably had an assistant driving a van who dropped him off with his equipment.

He had a van parked with a permit as close as he could park. At the time I took these he was checking the cameras and replacing the cards in them.

You can remember all that but you can't remember why he was photographing?
