Lens mount ID

Someone gave me this lens. Don't know anything about it -not even the mount style. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob

As others have said, Canon FD. Doesn't work easily with Canon EOS cameras, maybe with an adapter on some other brands such as Sony or other mirrorless designs.

Actually Canon FL. FD replaced it in 1971. FL lenses will work on the FD bodies but have to use stop down metering.

What makes you think it is an FL mount? It looks very much like the original FD breech lock mount to me. The FL mounts that I have seen had a different stop down lever design (round not flat), and did not have the open aperture signal pins etc. that are clearly visible in the picture of the lens mount in question.
Either way, these lenses need to be used in stop down metering mode on digital cameras I believe since the mechanical linkages no longer exist on the digital camera bodies or adapters.

It's been a long time since I sold off my old Canon manual focus equipment, so I may very well be wrong as you say. I do remember that the FL was called the breech mount lens and the "new" FD was called a bayonet mount. If I remember correctly, the FL had a ring or collar which was turned to mount the lens and the FD was twisted on to mount. Does that sound right to you?

The R, FL, and FD were all breech lock mount. The FDn "new FD" switched to the bayonet twist type locking mechanism. I still have an AE-1 and T90, and a couple of lenses that fit them, both FD and FDn.
I also have some of that era lenses with replacement mounts (Ed Mika) that work well on APS-C EOS bodies. FL 55mm f/1.2, FDn 135mm f/2.0, FDn 35 - 105 f/3.5, and FDn 500mm f/8.0 reflex. When you do the mount replacement you sort of get up close and personal with their anatomy!
Fun stuff if you like that kind of historical detail, but mostly it doesn't matter much these days.

This is definitely FD Breach Lock lens for Canon. The new FD had a modification that made it mount like a bayonet but still fit on the FD etc. cameras. The aperture lever and pins give it away. FL had the actuator lever only.
