you should be fine on the strip, but be careful in old vegas. if you have a chance, rent a car and about 30 minutes west of the strip is red rock. a national park that is a great place for photography ops.

In the many years that I have been going to Las Vegas, I have never had an issue.

As in any city, take the usual precautions with your wallet, camera bag, etc. There are professionals who make their living by picking pockets, bags, etc. The Strip is well lit and probably has more security cameras per block than B&H has in their warehouse. I think the higher risk is off the strip, in the garages, etc.

Also, I think the crooks are looking for the inebriated who are easier marks.

Red Rock Park: I agree, an easily accessible and beautiful location.

I've walked around the strip at night photographing many times and never had an issue. There are a lot of people there at all hours.

And I agree about Red Rock. Also, Valley of Fire State Park is an amazing place for photography.

Right. A relative took us around there a few years ago, and he knew where to go and where to avoid. Las Vegas publicity publications won't lead you into dangerous areas.

I've been to the strip several times. Believe me. You won't be walking around alone.

Best, as always, be aware of your surroundings.

Red Rock is a great place to photograph. Get there early and you might see the wild donkeys.

Las Vegas is like any other large city. You have safe areas and not so safe areas. Las Vegas is not a crimeless city. Tourists have reported theft crimes on the Strip too. Enjoy yourself.

1. be aware of pickpocketers on the strip

2. Valley of Fire is 45 min north of LV off the I-15; you
will find great photo opportunities there; there
any number of workshops that go there, including,
I believe, Mentor Series

Lived there for 7 years. Depending on the length of stay and if you have transportation, I would say take in the Hoover Dam tour. Plus, about 1 and half hours north is Mt. Zion National Park. Lot of photography to had there. The strip seemed safe to me. Wasn't down there at night more that 4 or 5 times. I lived out by the Red Rock Casino so, I went there a lot. Great location. Across from Red Rock (Charleston Blvd and the I215) is anything you could want with Best Buy, Costco etc. Several good places for dinner in the same area.
