Why would OP go for a 28-105 when they have a much superior 17-85 EFs lens? I think this is a really bad comment. Perhaps you would like to rethink this.

[quote=Mick 53]Hello Friends, I am considering purchasing the Canon 24-105 l lens.

I have the 24-105L lens and love it. It is on my camera at least 90% of the time. I purchased it from Canon's online site for about $650 as a reconditioned lens but it talking with a Canon rep was told that that their reconditioned lenses are really overstock dealer returns or opened boxes. The lens I got was new in an unopened box. I did have to wait awhile to catch it on sale but it was certainly worth the wait. I also have the 70-200 L 2.8 that I use for grandkids sports.

I had earlier suggested that you consider the 15-85 because it is a great lens for the cropped cameras, I had one and really liked it, when I stepped up to full frame I moved to the 24-105 and really liked it as well, but if you read enough reviews on the lens you will find that there are better lenses out there and this lens is a bit long on the short end for your cropped camera.

Recently I have read some very strong reviews on the 18-135 STM lens, Canon made several upgrades to that lens that makes it competitive with the 24-105 for image quality and for video on your 70D it will focus much faster and silently... Take your time and read reviews, the most expensive lens is not necessarily the best.

The image quality is better than your 17-85, but not quite as good as your 70-200.

I find that to be true as well, the 70-200 IQ is awesome compared to my other lenses. :)

n my crop, the 15-85 only came off my camera when I did nature.
On a FF, the 24-105, now IS my most used lens!!!!
But on a crop body, I just don't feel the 24-105 is adequate for versatile daily duties because of its limited wide end.
BUT, that's just MY opinion. I'm sure many will disagree!!! Good luck with your quest! ;-)

I just want to agree, on my 60D I find the 15 - 85 ef-s an excellent lens, sharp wide open and from wide to zoomed all the way out. A great lens for a Crop camera.
