Interesting! I asked permission to take macro-photographs of orchids within my local Home Depot, and the manager called HQ to clarify. I was told that HD absolutely forbids all photography within the store and outside garden areas. It has to do with photos previously being used in court cases against HD. Logic is: no photos = less potential negative evidence. How they expect to enforce this with celfone cameras, is beyond me.

This is exactly why I quit asking permission back when I worked for a newspaper. Every time I asked they would say "No". So I quit asking and always came back with the photos I needed. If they say "Yes" they are relinquishing their authority. If they say "No" they are exerting their authority. I don't ask anymore!

Did you ask him how business was for him there? I'd be curious to find out what kind of income he got from that.

Saturday at a Home Depot, actually quite brilliant if he was there just for himself, imagine all the weekend dads there...

As a former Home Depot Employee I can attest to the "No Photos" position of the corporate office. As a practice many customers take photos all over the store as stated with cell phone cameras. To date I have not seen it enforced unless it is an obvious competitor.
I am pretty new to the site here and love all of the advise I have read so far.... Just Lurking and will start contributing soon I hope.

That's a great point Danilo. I take many shots in our local farmers-market and only once was told by a lady to stop and when I lowered my camera, she fluffed up her hair, struck a pose and told me to fire away!

I went to my local Home Depot yesterday and on my way out spotted a guy at a table setup in the foyer. He had his camera (Canon 3ti) and a printer and a laptop. He was offering a photo, printed out on the spot (4 x 6).

That's interesting. I've taken photos of flowers at a couple of my local Publix supermarkets on several occasions. Didn't even think to ask permission first, but no one has ever questioned me or complained about it. I thought about trying Home Depot, but it looks like that's out of the question. Wonder if Low's has the same policy.

When I lived in Miami one of my customers was a large commercial orchid producer. I used to schedule some extra time when I called on them so I could take some quick shots when they had some new variety. This was back in the days of film and I gave the owners dup slides of what ever I shot. They had some printed and hung in their offices and customer reception areas and used a few of them in their advertising material. .......... Coot

very interesting.

Thanks rpavich; so enjoyed that video and what we can all take away from it is "smile broadly and you will hardly ever be blown off"
I hope it is OK to show this image that I shot in London a couple of years ago. I didn't even get close enough to speak with these pretty young women, I just wanted the shot for am album so I waited till they looked my way, held my camera up, away from my face, smiled broadly, pointed at my head and just mouthed the words " Love the hats, girls".

we are talking about photography in a home depot. if you want strickly photography without any other references may i suggest GET A BOOK. any photography web site or any other subject website is going to stray a little bit because posts are written by humans and humans aren't perfect. I suggest you chill out, relax and have fun. you CAN learn alot here. its taught in a more laid back, relaxed fashion.

I agree with both, sometimes I watch threads get all over the place and wish it would get back to the main idea or issue. But yes that people including me can stray so I just accept it when it does, such as now since this has nothing to do with the HD story. It's all ok to me. If I feel the need I'll try to bring it back on track otherwise I just roll with it.

Sometimes the most info and fun comes when a threads wanders. To get back to the origional just start a new thread with the subject matter. I've done that a few times.
 Then again, there's always going to be some people you just can't please. Also new users need to be aware there's a lot of humor involved here and a few (actually a lot, myself included) smarta***s here.
