Osama Bin Laden, a murderous thug, was relying on "accurate" news reporting to publicize his actions? I think he was hoping to find "sympathetic" news sources to downplay the war on terror and help propagandize his actions. Olbermann was perfect for this role, until his was fired. 8-)

I have no explanation for Oberman, he was a bit of a 'whacko', but it was said that the last thing Bin Laden wanted in the US was a sympathetic reporting, he wanted the US News to stop talking about all the political bickering and report more on the terror he was spreading. He felt Fox was spending to much time just trying to discredit Obama and not spending enough time on reporting what he (bin Laden) was doing.

Yes, he most likely did want the US to report more on him, but I haven't read any analysis stating that he wanted the media to report on the terror he was spreading. Common sense would seem to dictate that he would simply want favorable reporting, reporting that would give a plausible reason for his hatred of America and a justification for his actions. By the way, discrediting him is good. 8-)

I actually have seen this man at the VA, and wonder if he is recieving Combat incentives on his Pension? Only time will tell.
Thanks for adding that link. After seeing the whole story, I believe it very clear that he be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law according to the Stolen Valor Act. How dare he receive the heartfelt and emotional thanks due to war veterans who were killed, wounded, imprisoned and faught in any war for our country. It's a slap in the face to all veterans
I am a Vet Nam Vet. He is a disgrace but I hope he gets his due of embarassment through the press.
He should have been proud to have served period. One can not always control his military duty assignments whether stateside or overseas or combat zone. He obviously has self image problems and needs some psycho help BUT ... He has made a disgrace of himself. I do not think we should spend upwards of $30,000 a year to imprison him. I think he should be tried by military tribunal if possible, for impersonation and if found guilty a photo and writeup of his acts should be released to the media to be broadcast to every american. A disgrace is a disgrace and deserves to feel the weight of disgrace.

As a Vietnam Veteran I go to the VA hospital for check-ups and treatment. Every time I go there I still see the walking wounded that are Vietnam Veterans. Some of them have never adjusted back to what a normal life should be, or even much less the lives they had before. For years Vietnam Veterans topped the population numbers of homeless. Many lost their wives many became alcoholics. What a lot of them went through was truly traumatic. We were mostly barely more than children. I may be wrong but I think our average age was 19 years old. For some each day when they got up it went through their minds that that may be their last day. My best friend fought that war everyday of his life until agent orange finally took him from his family and friends. I can't count the number of breakdowns he had before being discharged with honor from the Army for medical reasons. Then I see information like the one who claimed to be a POW or medal winner that is an imposter and find it very hard to be compassionate. My friend and I were there in 1968 and just that year we had 14,594 KIA, 87,388 WIA and 176 MIA. I would love for the families of either of them to be able to handle this imposter and give him his proper punishment.
I served in Vietnam from 1968 Oct. to 1970 Jan. I have may friends and relatives on the "Wall" and still have a bad feeling in my gut when I think about the experiences. My thought is this: The FBI will prosecute him if he is wearing or declared any metals of valor-or Purple Heart. If he really did not serve then run an editorial with pictures in the newspaper and inform the television programs that he was on and let them run the information. A word of caution, not all vets did thing which the US Government will admit such as MACVSOG AND HER SISTER ORGANIZATIONS. Do this, ask him what his service number is and then get a review of his military records, Freedom of Information Act. Anyway let the larger portion of the emotion subside. Don't let another's folly pull you into the Abyss.
After serving about 3.5 years in 'NAM, I beganrduate school. One day while talking with othe grad studnts in theMicro Department, there was this one guy who, after a lenghty time, ask me hat I hought of him as a person who ran to Caada rather than deal wit the draft, etc. My reply to him was that we'll finish the conversation, bu that I'll not acknowledge or speak with him again. Saw him only a hort time after, but ignored nd did not acknowledge his presence. Saw too many friends and fellow American vanish in the explsion of a SAM and their airplane. I felt silence was the better way to deal with this person that to see him as a real person . Perhaps these liars, as posted in this thread, should be ignored. EXCOMMUNIATE THEM FROM THE REST OF HUMANITY.

My vote of course is YES prosecute him. In honor of all those who were POW's or even served in the war. So what do you think?
I feel sorry for anyone who's brain and gut tells him he needs attention badly enough to do something that low. When a person screams for attention, the worst he can experience is the LACK of it.
I think to publicly expose what he did and then leave him totally ignored would be the most horrible thing he could experience. He would feel as if he needed to crawl into a hole and stay out of sight.

Three and a half tours in Nam! YOu were a glutton for punishment, weren't you! I only made one and a half, but at 40+ that was enough.
Give him what he was most proud of.
A friend of mine in a Viet Nam Vets group made a great statement: "When we came home, they hated us. Now they want to BE us.". I suppose our greatest achievement is the turn around of opinion.

The real heros never talk about it. I worked with I guy for years and didn't know anything about his service record till after he died. He had been in a german prison camp for two years. His wife told us and said he never wanted to talk about it. Just wanted to forget.

You're absolutely right. In the vets group I belonged to, I maintained that I was the only one that belonged to an elite military group. I was the only one that didn't claim to be a SEAL, Force Recon, Special Forces or some sort. When I actually ran across a couple of Navy SEALS, they never mentioned it.

Not to make lite matter of this case but the poor
fellow might have met POW as a "Politian ON Welfare"
In which case he had to find some way to get people
to knowest him. As Jesus said, let he who is with
sin, let him be the first to cast a stone. There are
laws in America for impersonnating a WAR HERO take
him to court and let our justice system work.
He will get what is due him eventually, one day he will come face to face with the truth.
