And you probably paid more than 2TB would cost these days!

I remember dropping somewhere between $300 and $500.

Once upon a time, Seagate was high and mighty. Now all their products are to be disregarded. The last time I bought Seagate drives, three of them, and two were DOA. I brought all of them back and spent more on former IBM, then Hitachi Deskstars, which later was bought by Western Digital, and renamed to HGST.

Western Digital, also known for so-so tech, wanted a premium drive division. The Deskstar, in all its rebirths, remains a good 24/7 workhorse which have never failed past workable recovery for me. They get sick, but really don't die, offering at least 5-8 years of totally dependable 24/7 use.

Check this out.....Seagate has had so many failures, there is now a class-action law suit. Those here that have them want to see this.
Sure glad I've always used Western Digital. Hope this will help fellow Hoggers.

This stuff is all over the place. I spent many years installing and servicing network systems and had a few hard drive failures, but none from Seagate or WD. I'm about to buy a 5TB Seagate network attached storage unit.

Google did some statistics on several hundred thousand drives. The drives had a two year life span. But that included a large number of brands and models of drives. Google released the overall numbers, but did not release the data on particular brands.

I have about a half dozen Seagate drives for a number of years with no problems at all

Seagate was my "go to" hard drive mfr.

Then they purchased Quantum.............
Then they purchased Maxtore..............
Then they purchased LaCie.............

I have a 2Tb Seagate that I have loaded thousands of images on, and filled it to 1.8 Tb..........

Oh wait...........It broke about two months ago.

I wonder if all that CRAP HD mfrs they purchased.... LaCie the worst of the lot.... had anything to do with what's happening now?

Oh, and btw my fourth SSD drive went Tit's UP last week.

Who made the SSDs and how long did they last? And was any of the data recoverable when they failed?
