We have seen this one a couple of times at night but rarely in the daytime. Managed to slip out of the house and into the backyard and get this shot today. This will keep the squirrel population down but my wife hopes it doesn't get any of the rabbits. These things are quite vicious.
Shot taken at f8 and just over 300mm with a Canon 6d and Sigma 150-500. I was on aperture priority. Handheld, I was about 15 - 20 feet from the Ermine.
Cute little guy but yes they are vicious.
In spite of their menu choice, that is a cute animal. You got a great image in its natural environment.

Great shot. They are perpetual motion and not easy to focus on. Well done.
Thanks to all for your comments! much appreciated, they do move quickly but this one stared at me for a quite awhile before taking off, wasn't sure if it was going to attack me or run the other way, I got my shots and backed off.
You can see in the download that a piece of the right ear has been lost, probably from something that bite back.
Really beautiful and unusual. Your perseverance paid off.
Good capture. Cute fella.
They are really cute. We had one living in our tractor garage one winter. He/she would pop out to see who was coming in the garage, but I was never able to get a decent picture as the camera I had at the time didn't do well in low light and there were no lights in the garage. Towards the Spring time, you could see the color changing back to brownish tones.
Tough to photograph, always moving . You did a great capture there. :D
Beautiful capture. We don't have them here.
