They fooled us. We've been debating whether it would be an a6100 or an a7000, so they came out with the Sony a6300. The features and specs are about as everyone expected. They did include my absolute requirement, an audio in jack for my Rode mic.

Body only price $998. I'm going to wait a few months to see how it shakes out, but it does look like an upgraded a6000. That means a lot of the major problems will not be there.

That would give me two bodies. I want a 35mm f1.8 for an all purpose lens to mount on the 6000 and move the 18-200 over to the a6300.

Sold my Nikon D7100 and trying to sell my D7000. First time in 40 years I won't have any Nikon gear.

Nikon and Canon have both dropped the mirrorless ball. I'm not a fan of Sony, but they are the only serious game in town. (I know some like the tiny 4/3 sensors and the phony 1 inch sensor (Actually about 1/3 inch), but aps-c is the right size for me.

I own several A mount Sony bodies. Their customer service is great. They are really working on these smaller camera bodies. My only gripe about Sony is that they turn these new bodies out every couple of months. But the 6300 looks great. If I went that route I would have to purchase the adapter to allow me to shoot my A mount lenses. I wonder how the 6300 would look attached to my Minolta 600 F4?

FYI - As evidenced by identical price reductions at both B&H and Amazon, Sony recently knocked $100 off the retail prices of both of their adapters, the LA-EA3 and LA-EA4! Already having paid $348 for the latter, I just ordered the former for $99. Each adapter has its advantages.

Absent a tripod or built-in IS, he may be correct.

Yea, I know right. Wouldn't be great though for a try. It would be like a lens without a body attached.

Just recently I want to mirrorless Sony A7RM2. If I want to euse a 24 mp crop sensor I will use my A77M2. I started with Minolta and then Sony. I am enjoying the versitility of the A7RM2. I hope the A6300 will attract others to mirrorless.

One of major points is that adaptors are available for the lenses you already have so you can use them on Sony mirrorless cameras.

As to the price LEV the A6000 was over $700 dollars new. You're comparing a $550 dollar on sale kit price of a year old camera with the release price of a brand new model.

Ive never felt short changed by my A6000, and I'll take my aps-c over a 4/3 any day.
And to the person who recited that tired old saw of no lenses, 56 aps-c and 42 full frame available, how many lenses do you need. Better yet how many can you use at one time.

I don't do video and I don't fine any problems with my a6000. What I did do was to buy a rx100 m3 as a pocket camera.

The a6000 has been my go to camera. Fits right in the Tacoma cup holder. I had wanted it to be a little tougher and the a6300 should acomplish that. The new lens show Sony's commitment to the system. At the price point the new camera will still be a good buy, though not the fantastic bargain the a6000 is.

I have A mount cameras that work fine but still think of them as evolved Minoltas. The a6000 says Sony has arrived as a real player in still photography. Ups the incentive to improve for other makers. A win for consumers no matter what brand one finally decides on.

I am a Canon guy but I bought a used NEX-6 with the midget 16-50 lens and love this combination when I want to go small. Great colors and dynamic range. I am looking at the upgraded Sony body.

As a Sony a6000 owner, I would mention that the sensor dmensions and pixel count have not changes. From my brief cursory look, the changes seem to be in the less important areas. May I stand corrected :?:

I hate the little red video button on the A6000, does the A6300 change this?

Unfortunately, no. But it CAN be reprogramed.

I bought an a6000 in late fall of '14, body only for $550. A sustained price drop didn't take place till a year later, when basically, the a6000 with two "kit" lenses came out for $550. But this so-called new version of it, despite the label "a6300," perhaps should be considered INSTEAD AS A NEW HIGHER-LEVEL MODEL based on some of the a6000 design aspects, RATHER THAN A SUCCESSOR. Maybe I'm just arguing semantics here, but when was the last time anybody bought an electronic device of any kind that retailed for almost twice the price of its predecessor, i.e. $1000 vs $550? I haven't researched this, but take the Sony a7 mark I series of cameras: did their revised versions, the mark II's, debut with U.S. retail prices that were almost double?

For those of you interested in upgrading to the a6300 and actually own the a6000 model, are the differences in function and performance that significant that you're willing to pay almost twice the price of its predecessor? Obviously, this is a matter of preference, so there's no such thing as a wrong answer.

From my POV, if I'm going to pay that much more $$, I'd expect IBIS (Sony's more recent 5-axis Image Stabilization mechanism,) to be included. But now, if I purchase another E-mount camera, it will likely have to be along the lines of an a7 mk II, just to get the IBIS feature, but that's just me.

As a Sony user and owner of both A-mount and E-mount lenses, I'm glad I didn't pin my hopes all on one future model, as multiple rumor-type websites and interviews with various Sony "officials" proved totally unreliable, if not deliberately deceptive for the sake of Sony's outmaneuvering their competition, with respect to the "successor" of the a6000. As my Sony A55 occasionally seizes up, I'm looking forward to purchasing the new A68 model.

You sir, are completely correct; this camera represents and expansion of the A6000 family, being a new, midrange model in the Sony E mount lineup, hence the lack of some of the features you were concerned about like 5 axis steady shot. You will need to buy your way into the A7 family for that. :(

The A6000 will continue until it is upgraded with a new introductory model.
