Next weekend, I will be in the Orlando area and have a half a day free to myself. Thinking about driving over to CC. I don't think I will have time to take a tour, but are there any photo opportunities in the area?

Take the tour, The guide stops and points eagles and gators and all kinds of animals that you may miss. You'll get lots of photo ops.

I've done the CC tour several times over the years and I would not recommend it for wildlife ops from my experiences. It's great for its intent,but I would say you'd be fortunate to get any animal/bird ops. Yes,they always point out the eagle nests! :)

We stay in Cocoa Beach and our favorites are BlackPoint Wildlife Drive by Titusville and Viera Wetland off I95 N Wickam Dr Viera Fl. The main reason is you can drive your car on a drive to get real close to wildlife. Viera is about 3 miles long and BlackPoint is about 7 miles long. A great way to spend an afternoon. Viera is free and Blackpoint is $5 donation.

From Orlando get on RT 50 and stop at Orlando Wetlands in Christmas. Good placer birds and wildlife. Clean,well kept ,restrooms and nature center. Worth stopping at.

Amen to both. Saw over 100 roseate spoonbills on the Black Point trail in the Merritt Island Wildlife refuge last week.

Blackpointe was one of my first nature walks with my D700 back in the day, about 2009. Still love the pics I took there.

As mentioned, the Merrit Island Wildlife Refuge is definitely worth visiting. Another not so well known destination is the space and rocket museum on the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (not the Kennedy Space Center). You go to the south gate and ask for a pass to the museum. It's been many years since I've visited, and security arrangements may have changed, so research this option further before going, but if available, it's well worth the visit. Many dozens of rockets, the original blockhouse completely equipped with all the original equipment and computer and a space museum next door. It's not well known, and unlike the space center, is usually absent tourists.
