I am a fan of Google Photos, it is an excellent means of storing and managing my photos, it also has a very good editor.
My question is, what the "POP" function actually does, I rather like the effect it has on my images, providing it's not overdone.
It seems to combine a mixture of the contrast ,highlights, shadows, sharpening, clarity and defog adjustments in one slider.
What do UHH members think about this function.
I do use a regular photo editor and I also back up my photos onto 2 external hard drives.

I haven't used Google Photos, but Picasa "boost" seems to apply similar edits as you mention.

However, now that I've had PS Elements for a couple of years and learned layers, the drawback with one-click edits is they apply to the entire image. With layers you can direct the location and amount of each individual effect.

Interesting. I didn't know there was a "Pop" feature. I use it more for sharing than storing. Whatever I shoot with my phone goes there.

The "Pop" feature can be found in the "Edit" tab.
Try clicking "Auto" and view the result, you can move the sliders to change the result.
The only criticism I have is that auto always applies some vignetting but a quick adjustment on the slider removes any unwanted vignetting.

Hi Johneccles I read your post with interest because I vaguely remembered subsrcibing to this some time ago.Sure I had a account but when I opened it I came across the problem.I never used it because I could not see how to add my photos and guess what I still cannot see how to do it.Is it easy? From what you say I would like to try it.

Hi fizzog,
I have "Google Photos" installed on my Android phone/Tablet which can be downloaded from Google Play there is a iOS version as well. The app is also installed on my PC's so I am able to view my photos from all my devices.
You need to have a Google account which is usually your G Mail address to be able to down load the app to any device.
When you have done this go to menu (3 Lines in top left) then click the settings and select your options, make sure you select "High Quality" as this has no storage limit ,the "Help" section is quite good if you have problem. Now you should be able to back up all your photos stored on your PC.
Any photos stored in your phone or tablet can also be uploaded to Google photos so now you will have all your photos in one place.
Once this has been done you can select any photo and edit it, its rather basic but I think it's quite good.

When I am out on a photo trip the images are transferred to my tablet or phone as I take them using an EyeFi SD card so when I get back home they then are automatically uploaded to Google Photos, this is not really necessary but I like to use this function.

Google Photos is cloud based so you need to have an internet connection for anything can happen.
