Just thought I would share a few pelicans I got in La Jolla cove, north of San Diego, last month. This is really a fun place. The birds are very tame and you can really get close. Comments are always appreciated, both on the good side and bad. Enjoy.

Stunning! #1 needs to be on a wall somewhere :)

Really great shots, the composition, everything. San Diego area a great place. Was in and out of there back in '67-'71, lived in Ocean Beach for awhile.

Nice shots one and all. The first one has real quality in sharpness, composition, catch light in the eye and color tones. My favorite. Don

All of these are superb images, very well done. Pelicans are some of my favorite birds.

Wanted to thank you all for your nice comments. Very much appreciated and glad you enjoyed. Some like camera data along with photos so I will share if you are interested. All were taken with a Canon1DX and all my gear is Canon.

#1. 400mm DO II, 1/50 at ISO 1250. This shot was taken predawn hence the 1/50th. Tripod mounted. Pretty sharp in my opinion for 1/50, but of coarse the bird was still.

#2 400mm DO II, 1/2000, Iso 800. Hand held

#3 100-400mm (old one) @ 160mm. 1/3200 @ f5.0, ISO 400mm. Hand held. I remain impressed with the image quality of this old 100/400 mm trombone. I have heard lots of upbeat talk about the new one, better focus and 4stop IS. I am thinking about letting my old one go the the newer version. The 400mm DOII is a killer lens, but the flexibility of the zoom can make a lot of difference, especially for BIF.

#4 600mm f/4 IS II + 1.4II = 840mm. 1/400 @ f 5.6, ISO 2000. Tripod mounted.

#5 400mm DOII 1/2000@f5.6, ISO 800. Hand held.

#6 600mm f/4 IS II + 1.4XII = 840mm, 1/500@f5.6 ISO 2000. Tripod mounted.

The symmetrical staredown was my favorite!
